Coach Jason is a blue belt under Professor Tony Passos. Being a fan of MMA, he loved the submissions and grappling the most. Realizing how effective the ground game is led him to try out Jiu Jitsu and he has been hooked every since. A encouraging team player is how we would describe Coach Jason. He also demonstrates the tremendous power of what showing up and working hard accomplishes.

I have been training at Team Passos for 9 months now, and it has been an amazing experience. I started out in the kids class which I really enjoyed since all the instructors would explain the drills well enough that every kid, all different ages, in that class could learn it. After a couple months of training in the kids class I moved up to the adult fundamentals. The adults class and kids class both have a common theme. Every instructor who teaches or helps out makes sure that everyone understands the technique while being safe, and everyone is treated like family.

I was looking for gyms around the northern VA area and found Team Passos. I heard nothing but great things and felt super nervous about joining a new gym, but the coaches and the environment were so welcoming that It made it easier to keep coming back. Passos is about an hour away from where I live, but it is definitely worth the drive. The people at this gym make everyone feel comfortable, especially if you’re a beginner at learning BJJ. I can’t wait to continue my journey in jiu-jitsu!

My son has been training here for the past couple months, and the transformation in him is unbelievable. His confidence has sky rocketed. The professors are very talented and make it fun for the kids while still keeping them disciplined. I’m really happy with Team Passos.

I have been training at Team Passos for three months, and there is no way I can fit all of the positive aspects of this Academy into one review. So, I will focus on the Academy's staff, facility/curriculum, and general atmosphere.
The Professors and coaches are top-notch. They take the time to get to know you as a person and student. I started training at another academy, and my interaction with the coaching staff/leadership was limited to on-mat instruction, which made me feel like they did not care if I showed up for class. The leadership and coaches at Team Passos are the complete opposite

I walked into Team Passos an out of shape 44 year old with two very small kids at home. I very much needed a change and a challenge. 3 years later I am calmer, in shape, more confident and have a whole new group of friends (and skills!) This is the best academy in the Nova area regardless of your goals (some people drive more than an hour AND past many other academies to come here). They have an extremely competitive track, but also have a track for a hobbyist like me. There are a few things that stand out to me about this academy. 1. They have A LOT of people who come here from other academies

My family and I began our Jiu Jitsu journey at Team Passos in May of this year and have been beyond impressed with their amazing instruction and professionalism! They always treat us like family and sincerely care about each of their students. What I am most impressed about is their dedication to making you better. All the coaches including Professor Tony and Josh give you consistent feedback and challenge you to grow and develop your Jiu Jitsu.
Team Passos Jiu Jitsu is an amazing place and community that I highly recommend to anyone from beginners to experienced!

My experience over the past two months in the Adult Fundamentals program has been amazing. The curriculum is comprehensive and the environment allows you to progress and develop at your own pace. What sets apart Team Passos - the coaches and camaraderie. Everyone at Team Passos demonstrates professionalism and fosters a community aimed at improving your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I strongly recommend Team Passos for any experience level, beginner through advanced.

My 7 year old daughter has been with Team Passos for 1 year. She was indifferent with her previous academy but immediately loved Team Passos. There is a sense of community and family here. Professor Tony, Coach Josh, Coach Andrew and Jason all treated my daughter as if she were their own. She loves Coach Josh, the lead instructor of the kid's program. He is kind and patient yet firm in his teachings. Professor Tony is encouraging and always has a smile on his face. The environment is great for kids to learn and have fun. I was very disappointed that we could not continue with Team Passos. Unfortunately

Team Passos is a great place to learn Jiu Jitsu. It’s a clean academy wherein everyone is respected and treated as a family member. The instructors are very helpful and focus on correcting even minor mistakes to improve the application of techniques/concepts. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone willing to learn Jiu Jitsu at any phase of their life.

Beautiful facility with top notch instructors. I train at a "sister" school closer to my home -- Infinite Fighting Concepts in Gaithersburg, MD. Professor Tony will often visit our school and teach seminars. It's clear that he has been teaching and training for a long time; he knows just the right way to describe complex move and make them effective for a novice.
What I like about his school in particular is that there is a large female presence. One of the instructors is a woman with a brown belt! Occasionally, Team Passos will hold women-only seminars, which is nice in this male

Four years ago, after observing 3 local Jiu Jitsu schools, we enrolled our then, 8 year old son, at Team Passos Jiu Jitsu. We were impressed with their program, as well as the cleanliness of their studio. We wanted our son to become more physically agile and build endurance and stamina. The program provides a challenging workout with agility drills, in addition to teaching the children important Jiu Jitsu skills. Some schools only work on demonstration/slow choreographed Jiu Jitsu techniques, while Team Passos puts them into regular practice with student on student grappling/rolling.

A friend of mine set up a women's self-defense class. The location is a bit far from our home but after the lesson I can definitely say this was well worth the drive. Our lesson was for two hours. There was were 20 women participating. The instructors were great.
They started with a warm-up and gave us an agenda of what we were to expect. We started with a few tips on holding and grabbing. We proceeded with lessons on how to defend ourselves when we are down on the ground. This was definitely a full work out. The staff was very engaging and instructive. First, let me describe what this martial arts school is NOT. It is NOT a place where your children will goof around after school ("get some physical activity"), kick the air a few times, do some Katas, bow at your instructors twenty times, and then force you to pay incessant fees to get belts or stripes every other month. With that out of the way...
Instead, Team Passos is a modern Brazilian Jujutsu training facility with outstanding instruction. We in Northern Virginia are indeed fortunate in that there are now many such non-"McDojo" type martial arts schools. So why this

I was in Sterling for a few weeks for work and was looking for a place to train while I was in town. Professor Passos and company welcomed me with open arms. The instruction was excellent. If I lived in the area this is where I would train. As it stands I will be back next time I am in town.
Thank you again.

I called Tony and told him I was a white belt looking for a place to come in and train for the week while in town on business and he immediately invited me to come sit in as his guest. I attended two great sessions (Monday and Wednesday). His instructors are top-notch and everyone from employees to fellow students were extremely welcoming. His gym has a very friendly vibe, there were no egos or posturing just an atmosphere of learning. Tony's wife who runs the front office was just as friendly and welcoming and even sent a follow up email on how my first class went! I was able to come

Tony Passos is an amazing instructor, and one of the best in the world. His instructions are clear, and the techniques are sound.

I'm a 35 year old computer engineer and I struggle with maintaining a healthy weight and level of fitness because of the amount of sitting I am required to do at work. I have been training with Tony Passos since 11/2013 and I have seen some great results. The gym has a real feeling like you are on a team and not just going to the gym focusing on your own results. Tony takes a holistic view on fitness and invests himself in each student's success. Tony teaches great jiu jitsu but what keeps me coming back is the value that he adds by running a good program and not just a 90 minute

This was our second year training with Tony Passos. It has always been borderline with him, but we were allowing it, thinking that maybe we are to laid back with our boys, maybe they need more disipline. Thankfully, he showed his true colors in a way that it was clear that this guy is just plain cruel. He picks a couple of kids whenever he is in one of his moods, and sits them out during the entire class. He has stopped teaching them techniques, and my kids only learned to fear him, and not in a positive way. Most of the time, the parents sit there shocked at some of the things he says and does
