The New Curly Haircut Success Experience is perfect for curlies who come to Kindred Curl for the first time and want to experience our most in-depth appointment, including a Curly Haircut and Curl Success Experience. A Curly Haircut includes a full consultation, a dry curly haircut tailored to your waves, curls or coils and a full wash, style and finish.
Kelly is Kindred Curl's Owner, Head Stylist, Dream Maker, and Fierce and Fearless Leader. She started the salon in 1997, but her heart for positivity and inclusivity was established long before that.

I had my first appointment at Kindred Curl and I cannot say enough good things about Kelly, Janaya, and the salon! Both Kelly and Janaya made it a point to get to know me and my hair goals. Janaya did a great job explaining each step and gave me opportunities to try new techniques on my own. Kelly did a fabulous job finishing off my hair. I haven’t stepped foot in a hair salon in almost 2 years, and my appointment today was definitely worth the wait! So happy with my results!! ☺️

I went to Kindred Curl for the very first time recently & I am so happy with my experience! I have never had a haircut before - let alone a curly cut & was feeling very nervous. The staff & environment were so welcoming. It felt truly felt like a safe place where I could ask all my questions with no judgment. Janaya was so patient & informative. I learned so much about my hair & left there feeling like I had a good outline of what I needed to do to keep my hair healthy. My hair has never felt or looked better or received so many compliments! I was looking for a curly hair salon for my daughter, specifically one that uses non toxic hair care products and I definitely found it! My daughter has very curly hair and struggles to style it. Janaya was fantastic, she walked us through step by step on how to wash properly and use each styling product. Leah’s hair looked beautiful, her curly cut and curls were Perfect when Janaya was finished with her. We are looking forward to our next appointment and this journey with Kindred Curl!

I had the new curly hair success experience a week ago. I didn't know what to expect. Kelly took the time to explain everything she was doing. She let me feel the curls through her process so that I knew what to feel for when I got home to continue my curly hair journey. Kindred Curl is an experience not a salon! Kelly and her team have curated every piece of a client’s visit from the decor, consultation, cut, and insane selection of curl-friendly (and green!) products. Since they’ve been reopened, I have stopped in for product and the place is top-rate in terms of following safety and sanitizing protocols. Over the many years I’ve been a client, the salon has grown and evolved in many ways, but I’ve always enjoyed the same attention and quality in services that I received during my first visit.

I have been a Kindred Curl client for over 10 years. I have really thick wavy hair that is prone to frizz. Before discovering Kindred Curl, other stylists would try to thin it out and style it straight. Kelly helped me find the right concoction of products and has taught me the proper styling techniques for my hair type. I get so many compliments on my hair now. I completed my first curly experience with Kelly, a few weeks. This was not my first curly cut, but it is my best!! I came in with a frizzy mess and my curls are finally back. After years of dreading haircuts I can honestly say I am so excited with the results. She really knows how to cut curly hair!! Not only that but I definitely needed to use more moisture and product, and stop over manipulating my curls. That knowledge alone was invaluable.

My first visit to Kindred Curl was excellent. My stylist was Kelly. I brought inspiration pictures and explained what I wanted. She advised she had a different vision for my curls than my inspiration. To which I said, let's go for it. I am SOOO happy with the results!! She listened to my "why" and goals and was able to interpret that what I truly needed was something different than what I thought I wanted. Best experience you can get, right? Also, shout out to Janaya. She is fantastic and sincerely cares for her clients successful hair journeys as well.

This is the only curly hair salon I will go to! Kelly and Janaya are the only 2 people who have cut my curls and made me fall in love with my hair all over again. They are skilled and knowledgeable. Plus, their customer satisfaction is at the top of their priority list. I love this place!

I have hair that's somewhere between wavy and curly. The cut was awful- I have these random blunted pieces sticking out..? Also, Kelly's styling was atrocious for my hair- weighed it down and made it look horrible. I think if your hair is extremely curly/kinky this cut/styling works but it definitely doesn't for my kind of hair. Curly hair isn't one size fit all, regardless of what Kelly thinks. I've found that the stylists at Salon Cercone actually know how to cut hair like mine. And the benefit there is also that you can just drive to Shadyside instead of driving to east

Love my new cut from Victoria! We just recently moved to Pittsburgh, and I'd been getting amazing Deva Cuts in our previous city (Chicago), and I wasn't sure what to expect with a new salon in a new place. Everyone was friendly, and Victoria took the time to really ask what I wanted, clarify what shape she was going to give me, showed me how to use products and style on my own at home, and explained her product choices. The first time I went to Kelly Elaine, I was thrilled with the results, although I was put off my the various animals hanging out there. Since I was so pleased the first time, I decided to look beyond the critters and go back. I should not have to leave a salon - especially when I paid what I did - and finish cutting my hair myself to get what I wanted. So I have thick, curly-verging-on-kinky hair. I love it, but knew I needed some shape. I hadn't had my hair professionally cut in about 10 years because other salons could only cut it when it was straight. No thank you!

I used to live in NYC and had a friend who worked at curly hair salons - she's the person who taught me how to do my hair. I moved to Pittsburgh in 2012 and went to a few different salons in the Wexford/North Hills area that were recommended by friends here. The second Kelly started working on my hair, I could tell she knew what she was doing. She understands my hair better than even I do and really took the time to hear me out and help me figure out what I wanted. I've gotten Deva cuts at the NYC Devachan salon as well as Deva trained specialists in Florida and Boston. They did not cut my hair dry, as the Deva stylists usually do. The only thing Deva about it was that they used Deva styling products. My hair looked okay in the end, though just about as good as any non-curly specialist would cut it. I went out of my way and spent more money for the Deva cut, and it was definitely not worth it. I would not recommend if you're looking for the Deva experience.

If I were really a snobby person, I could say the salon it self was not up to par, however, I was beyond willing to look past that to have my hair cut by a Curly Deva Hair Specialist. Kelly was over an hour late to cut my hair, with barely an apology or an offer of a discount or favor. She told me how to talk to future hair stylists when I commented about my own bangs, thank you but this is not my first rodeo of my getting my bangs cut.
