Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) - A printing and cursive curricula, HWT readiness curriculum includes three complete programs: Readiness & Writing teaches foundation skills, Language & Literacy uses hands-on strategies to make lessons come alive and math concepts are fun for children in the Numbers & Math portion.
I had the privilege of being the DFPS Licensing rep for Learn and Play Preschool for two and a half years when I worked at Childcare Licensing. I observed Deanna with the children, how she ran her school above Minimum Standards and her passion for teaching. I loved working with her and her philosophy so much, I decided to move my own child into her program (even though it was in the opposite direction of my employer at that time).
My name is Deanna Barnes and I am the director and teacher at Learn and Play Preschool. I love my job teaching and caring for young people, I have a TON of hands-on experience and a background in child-development and psychology. A child's preschool years should be filled with tremendous growth across all disciplines of development as they prepare for kindergarten with independence, knowledge and confidence.

Ms Deanna is amazing. My Deanna hands down is the best childcare environment around and I interviewed a lot. My son was in her care for over 2 years. He started kindergarten this year and still talks about how much fun he had at her school and how much he misses her.
Not only is her school safe and fun but she also really prepares them for kindergarten. She helps the children both academically, socially, and emotionally. All of these aspects are so important and she does a great job! I thank Ms Deanna for her amazing school. She really makes you feel like part of the family.

We evaluated three Montessori schools and two other private schools before coming here. After spending just a small amount of time in the classroom and meeting the teacher, listening to the kids play and study, I was sold. I really cannot say enough good things about Deanna Barnes. She's a smart, patient, caring, sensitive person with a wonderful sense of humor and a truly compassionate warmth for the children. My kid has never once in nearly a year said, "I don't want to go." Not even once. This really is one of those rare gems that is full of love *and* education.

Amazing!! Deanna is a dream come true for our family! We had two boys whom had just come out if a bad preschool/ daycare situation when we found Deanna on CL. Her credentials speak for themselves, and she is just the most warm and considerate person. Since being with Deanna, almost 6 months now, my youngest son is so much calmer and focused. My oldest began kinder this year and is way advanced, thanks to Deanna's fine tuning and patience. She works with the kids in a kindergarten type way, with lots of learning, mingled with lots of playing (not an intended pun, it's really what it is), and tons
