Coblentz Society
We are chemists, scientists, engineers - all spectroscopists. Our aim is to help each other stay up to date on the latest developments in vibrational spectroscopy. Vibrational spectroscopy encompasses infrared (FT-IR), Raman, and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopies. We share knowledge and experience, peer to peer and older generation to younger.

The Coblentz Society is very active at scientific conferences and presents several achievement awards each year. Coblentz member Fran Adar wins the 2021 NYSAS Gold Medal Award. The Coblentz Society is co-sponsoring two days of learning on "Spectroscopy in Biopharmaceutical Analysis" The content is relevant to both upstream and downstream processing.
Services
The Coblentz Society was founded over 65 years ago with the purpose of fostering the understanding and application of vibrational spectroscopy and that continues to be our goal today. 1953 - Columbus Committee is formed at Ohio State Symposium to investigate formation of "The Infrared Society." Committee consists of Drs.
Reasons to join include initiatives aimed at young career professionals, scientists in under-served geographies, and graduate students looking toward the next step in their career. Your membership and participation, as you have time, is valuable to the overall community. The Society encourages you to join or renew your membership.
The Board of Mangers sets the tone and activities for the Society. By participating you have the opportunity to impact the vibrational spectroscopy community. Join a prestigious group of former Society managers by running for this position. Contact the Society Office for details.

There are three opportunities to become a mentor: participate as a member of a panel at a conference, sign up for conference speed mentoring, and check that you would like to be a mentor in your member profile.Mentorship opportunities also spring naturally from attending conferences and meeting younger scientist exploring spectroscopy.
The Coblentz Society is committed to fostering the understanding and application of vibrational spectroscopy and the professional development of scientists practicing in this area. To further these aims, the Society has three grants designed to assist students and early-career professionals. Travel grants to assist in defraying the cost of travel to one of the conferences where the Coblentz Society is an active participant.
The Society's By-Laws state the following with regards to Honorary Members: The Board of Management at its discretion, and by the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the Managers, may elect as Honorary Members of the Society individuals who are deemed to have made outstanding contributions to the field of vibrational spectroscopy or to any other field related to the purposes of the Society.
