I have curly hair that I’ve been trying to grow out (so it’s super long curly). I’ve always held on to length but have been contemplating getting a bob or a shorter cut for years. I walked into the salon with the plan on telling Charlene my thoughts but ultimately keeping the decision in her hands. I brought up the idea of getting a bob but I wasn’t sure how it would look curly (I imagined kind of odd). Charlene assured me that it would look good, and let me tell you, MY HAIR HAS NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD CURLY (AFTER ANY CUT!!!!) I am so in love with my hair, I only wish I was more enthusiastic

When I arrived right on time for my 10:30 appt, I wasn’t greeted in a normal way. It felt like I’d walked into someone’s party to which I hadn’t been invited. But when I explained I actually had an appointment, I was directed by Erin—who was supposed to be my stylist—to sit down. She introduced herself from the nearby chair while she was working on her client’s hair. I sat down. The client said softly to Erin, “Sorry,” presumably for exceeding the length of the appt, but that’s not her fault obviously. Erin said loudly, “I’m not! I knew this was going to take a long time

I walked in for a haircut. What I suspected would take 30 minutes to an hour took over two hours. However, I got a good haircut so I decided to go back. I called over 15 times on several different days and at different times without them answering or returning my messages. I finally got in touch with them and they told me they would call me back about an appointment. They have failed to do so.
All in all, good haircuts, for reasonable prices, but the customer service is so phenomenally bad that I can’t recommend it.

Erin did my hair (dye and bangs), and she is wonderful. I am originally from San Francisco, and moved to Madison last year. I have had some trouble finding a good stylist here, as I LOOOOVED my SF salon. After going to a few people, Erin is the person I will be sticking with. I was able to get a quick appointment with no hassle. I told her what I wanted, she executed it BEAUTIFULLY.
Most importantly, she gave me the color I asked for and then I chickened out AFTER she darkened my hair and wanted it a a shade or two lighter (again, color was great, I am just a wuss). I walked in later that day

Charlene has studied hair design around the world. No one gives me a cut as good as Charlene! Her eye for color is spot-on, also. She's a warm person, interesting, and easy to talk with. The shop is a treasure from the fabulous color choices on the walls to the original art and furnishings. All in all a very sweet place to spend time and relax while receiving top notch services.

DO NOT BOOK MAKEUP HERE!
I went to both stylists recently at Lumen for a hair/makeup as a bridesmaid in a wedding, and I had 2 pretty different experiences. I'd love to give 5 stars to Erin, who did my hair, as she was all-around awesome, and I was pretty happy with how my hair turned out.
The other stylist on the other hand is what drags this review down (I would go as far as to give her 1 star). Charlene was the one my sister-in-law coordinated our appointment with, and when she first reached out, she confirmed they offered services for hair and makeup, $75 each. Then my sister-in-law
