Hair Studio opened its doors in 1986. Owners Carolyn (Kate) Thom and Monica Hamm had a vision of a salon that designers would thrive in and clients would feel a part of. Their longevity speaks to their success. For over 30 years they have dedicated themselves to the Art of Beauty. We are ideally located close to the UW-Madison campus, on the near west side, at 3738 Speedway Road.

I've been going to Hair Studio almost since it opened. I travel all over the country and get compliments on my cut and color wherever I go. I'm not great with my own styling, so the cut needs to hold up -- and it always does! Kate is amazing, and I've also had Angie and Nikki. They're all fantastic and make it a pleasure. Plus you get a head massage when they condition your hair. Some day I want to go and get a scalp massage just to relax!

They are terrible with customer service. I bought a Groupon for them and was really looking forward to finding a new salon after moving to the area. I set up my appointment last night and no one told me any "rules" that pertained to the Groupon. I needed to cancel because of the bad road conditions and she said there was a 24 hour cancellation with the Groupons and if you cancel less then that - they take the Groupon. Will definitely not be going here!

I recently had my hair done with a groupon that I purchased.. and I was not pleased with the customer service at all. I had Julie do my color and she was very rude and unpersonable when I first got there and couldnt decide exactly what I wanted. I called previously and asked the lady over the phone before I got there if I could get highlights rather than an all over color (which I purchased the groupon for) and after talking to Julie about it in the salon, she was very unpleasant in helping me make my decision on what to do. I am new to the area and desperately needed my hair cut and highlighted. I found a groupon for this hair studio and thought I would try it out! I read reviews on yelp and it seemed promising. I received THE BEST cut and highlights EVER! Julie Naggs was my dresser. She is so creative and really listened to what I wanted. I showed her a picture of what I liked and she made it happen perfectly! I feel I look even BETTER than the model! I could'nt be more happy and I will keep recommending this salon and stylist to my friends.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but similar to Mia H., I am already starting to see chipping in the shellac polish and it's only been two days since I got the manicure. I'm knocking my previous review down one star because the quality of the manicure is definitely not worth the full price I would've paid. Good thing I had a coupon - but even then, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon to get my nails redone.

I purchased a groupon for a shellac manicure. My experience was terrible although the woman doing my nails was very friendly. First, she did not do anything except buff the tops of my nails, and minor cuticle cutting. She didn't even file my nails. Second, she only covered the middle of my nails, leaving the sides and tips unpainted. Two days later, one nail had chipped halfway off and today, 4 days later, every single nail is chipped. Shellac is supposed to last two weeks at least, so I am very disappointed with the results.
