A 15 minute consultation is highly recommended for new clients receiving hair color prior to the day of service. YY uses Professional Davines, Wella & Redken hair color products. A protective finishing gloss and a finish blow dry style is always included with our hair color services. All services include a scalp massage, shampoo & a conditioning treatment.
Mini-facials for men are offered during shampoo and make-up touchups for women after services. Note: persons over the age of 14 are subject to the salon rates above. Ages 14 & below whose parent(s) receive salon services will be charged $40 for haircuts and are subject to the color rates above.

I love this salon. I've been getting my hair colored by Nick for 3-4 years, and I've never left disappointed.
I have platinum blonde hair so I've had some absolutely terrible experiences at other high-end salons in Richmond and DC. When I first came to the salon, Nick went above and beyond fixing previous stylists' mistakes and coaxing my hair back to health. It's really rare to find a colorist as skilled as Nick in bleaching hair.
Prices are more than reasonable for the level of service the salon provides (I've paid twice as much at Katie Blue for color that looks

Upon walking into the salon, it feels fresh, upscale, and relaxing. The salon looks simple but yet beautiful. It is also quiet so you feel very exclusive which I like.

Another great cut & experience at YY! The new renovation is absolutely gorgeous, natural light in every space. I had my first cut with Keyla & she did a fantastic job, I love it! Also not to miss- the new product lines they're carrying, davines for hair & Clove + Hallow makeup. (I purchased the Clove + Hallow hydratint blush in "Nakey" shade, highly recommend!)

I have tried nearly every salon in Richmond, including the "best" ones on Yelp. But if you have platinum blonde hair, well, you know how hard it is to find someone who can get you there (without killing your hair). I've had some terrible situations at some of the most well-known salons in Richmond. My natural shade is about a 8-9, but I highlight it to an 11-12. Nick at YY is the first person who GOT IT RIGHT (and was gentle on my hair). I'm thrilled to have a place where I can have an ongoing hair-relationship, and know I'm going to get consistently great results

I love YY Salon. I have been a customer for 8 years now and no one does color better than Nick. I always get compliments on my color and always recommend a trip to YY. Kara, April and Jen are wonderful stylists always asking what you want out of the cut so you get what you want. Michael and his entire team are thoughtful, fun and easy going. Color me happy ! ;)

Everyone at YY was very nice, so I hate doing this... but, well, it was a personal recommendation and Yelp reviews that influenced my decision to chose this salon, and my experience was not representative of the reviews here. Like the other reviews, I just moved to the area and tried 10 different stylists with no luck... until I stumbled upon YY. Jennifer was fantastic! It was obvious that she was passionate and knowledgeable about her craft. She jokingly said this will change your life and she kept her promise. The BEST stylist I've ever had. Oh, and cost? I would pay triple.

Big city innovation and skill in little old RVA. After being spoiled by the hair talents in Chicago for a few years, I returned to Richmond sure that I would never get a decent color job again. YY proved me wrong by doing amazing highlights and an awesome cut. (Used the most expensive stylist for color and one of the cheapest for the cut. After all, color can be a mess to fix. A bad cut grows out). The color job was one of the best I've had the cut was fab.
I see some reviews cite cost. And true, it cost about the same as I paid in Chicago. But WORTH IT.

I booked a cut with Kara at $65. She thoroughly examined my hair, asked me what I liked, and what I was going for style-wise. Since I'm not adventurous and cannot pull off a cool pixie like hers, I kept my long layers. Fantastic haircut!

I love YY. Owned by Michael Wood, this is one of the most New York hair experiences you're going to get in Richmond. The salon has a chic, clean atmosphere, and you'll mostly likely get one stylist for cut and one for color.
Only problem, great atmosphere and talent doesn't come cheap. Women's cuts start at $100 and men's start at $75, and that's assuming you're seeing the lowest level stylist. Color starts at $100.
