Hardy-Close Funeral Home
Located just minutes South of Louisville in historic downtown Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Hardy-Close Funeral Home is a family-owned and operated company. First established in 1929 as Hardy Funeral Home, Harold Hardy and J. B. Close became partners and established Hardy-Close Funeral Home in 1981. They were both outstanding funeral directors and community men.

They were always available with a helping hand. Just before J.B died, he sold the funeral home to Tim Scharrer. In a short period of time, the funeral home went downhill and soon it was for sale again. Renovations resulted in new furnishing, a new arrangement room, a new chapel with solid wooden pews, a new fleet of cars, and even a 10-cent coke machine that people love.
Services
Staff members of Hardy-Close Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors. Ben Underwood attended his Grandfather's funeral in 1943, he witnessed an old time tradition where the casket was lowered into the grave with all the family gathered around.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.
Most of us are not prepared to plan and carry out a funeral ceremony for someone we love. And so much of the information available on this critically important subject fails to focus on what is most important: having a personalized, meaningful funeral that helps families and friends begin the healing process of mourning after the death of someone we love.
Someone you love has died. You are now faced with the difficult, but important, need to mourn. Mourning is the open expression of your thoughts and feelings regarding the death and the person who died. It is an essential part of healing. The following articles provide many practical suggestions to help you move toward healing in your unique grief journey.

I can not say enough how thankful I am for Hardy and Close Funeral Home. They were able to take a horribly heart wrenching time and make a beautiful experience. From the first minute of planning till the time my husband was laid to rest the staff the staff was so compassionate and caring. What an awesome team!!!

If I could give Hardy-Close more than a 5 star review, I would. Jimmy and his staff went above and beyond to take care of my family during their most difficult time. They were compassionate to the needs of my family and did an amazing job preparing my late brother in law for viewing. We will definitely use them in the future.

My son passed away. They were rude to me. I was devastated they told me that I had to move from the front row because it was for family. I'm his mom that makes me more family than anyone. They hurried us out it was terrible

I want to thank Clayton for all his help and kindness he showed all of us during a difficult time. I could not have asked for a better person to help the family through the last few days. He made sure that everything was in order and continued to check on us throughout the day. Thank you for all your help.

I am leaving a 5-star review because the staff at Hardy-Close Funeral Home made the emotionally painful experience of a funeral for my Father easier with their patience, kindness and warmth. Their calming and friendly demeanor helped us as we said goodbye. The staff came and talked to my children and gave us space while also being supportive and nearby if needed. The Funeral Director is very professional while also being personable. I feel like they took care us and my Father.

My grandfather's funeral was held here a few years ago and it was an expertly-done service. The staff was kind and professional, and the funeral home is beautiful. We couldn't have asked for a better service. Jimmie and Vickie are great to deal with and they really know how to run an excellent funeral home.
