Stave & Hoop
Stave & Hoop, a new Missoula speakeasy was built to pay homage to the amazing history of the building at 223 N. Higgins. Built in 1896 by the Garden City Bottling & Liquor Co. the basement was used mainly as barrel storage. The elements that make up a traditional barrel are the Stave (the vertical running wood slats) and the Hoops (the metal rings holding the staves together).

Out of this history bloomed a modern day, speakeasy style bar serving incredible craft cocktails, beer, wine and Montana style comfort food. We are OPEN to guests 21 & over- serving classic fare & cocktails worthy of this new Missoula speakeasy!

A friend and myself attended a Burlesque show the other evening. It was sold out and the bar was busy, so I knew there would be a wait for drinks. My friend and I sat at a table and waited quite a while for a server to greet us. The table was very sticky. Once our waitress arrived, I could already tell she was annoyed. She wasn’t very friendly. My friend and I were planning on ordering dinner for the evening and our server regretted to inform us that the kitchen was closed. I wish the bar would have told patrons beforehand that there would be no food service for the entirety of the evening. I

Such a fun atmosphere!

Coming from DC where speakeasy themed bars are plentiful, I was excited to try a Missoula take. We stopped in late night while in town and loved this place. It's hidden, but not too hidden and once inside it really feels like you've been transported back to the 1920s (especially with the amazing band). Drinks were delectable and the bartenders were attentive despite the place being pretty packed!

The atmosphere was great.. drinks were great
Prior to the comedy show. It was comedy night, the first two were ok. The third so called comic used his time to push his political views and attempted to make jokes about gun violence and schools. He was absolutely awful!! He destroyed the atmosphere. He was terrible and totally destroyed the evening. NOT WORTH THE 10.00 COVER. We left after him. Terrible terrible..

The bartender was amazing and recommend of very good drinks both on and off menu, and the food was utterly amazing! The Elk gravy was delicious and could eat a whole bowl by itself. The bacon wrapped dates were perfectly caramelized and don't think I've ever had fried green tomatoes this good before. Highly recommend this place!

Dimly lit, service was slow, overpriced drinks, $14 burger smelled like fish but tasted okay under the blue cheese and bacon. Ice water tastes like unfiltered Missoula tap water, chock full of vitamins like calcium and iron.
Live music was good. Fries were good.

Aesthetically very pleasing. You can certainly feel the speakeasy vibe. However, come here for the aesthetics, not the drinks. Clearly the bartenders need to lay off the simple syrup and learn to embrace the natural flavors of the spirits

I was so excited to try this place and was extremely disappointed. The server was yawing as she served us. Not once did she smile or even "pretend" to be welcoming. I've been in the service industry in Missoula for over 10 years and seriously only one guy smiled and gave good service (props to the guy with the apron at the bar, big guy with a beard). The rest of the crew looked like they had root canals 10 minutes earlier. Is it really that hard to smile, and at least "act" like you care about your customers. Shame on you! I have kids their age that work in the industry

We had a great time here! The locale has a cool and comfortable ambience, and the happy hour specials can't be beat. The food was quite good; the poutine with elk gravy ("406 Fries") and the house burger especially stood out. Our server, Sammy, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Their "Break even bottle" feature (currently available Tues-Thurs) is an exciting special for people who like to try new, unique things. We will definitely be back!

The entrance to the bar is in the alleyway and to the right. When you walk downstairs you'll enter a place with a cool speakeasy feel that's really intimate. They have daily specials such as $4 wine glasses on Wednesdays from 4pm-7pm and $5 flights on Fridays. They also have happy hour on weekdays which includes 1/2 off wines, wells, brews, and bites.

They serve mostly classic cocktails here and only a couple of signature cocktails. My first drink was the painkiller tiki ($11) which had big pineapple flavors and contained many of the typical tiki flavors you'd expect. My second

This has become our favorite bar in Missoula! It definately gets the speak easy vibe and we can't get enough of it.
All of the staff are fantastic. We've always had a great experience. The drinks come quickly and the food is amazing. We love the fried okra; although, it's a temporary menu item. We went from not going out very much to having a place that we felt at home very quickly.

Bar and drinks are incredible- the food is marginal with some great dishes and others that are just okay. Definitely a fun place to grab a drink with friends or just your significant other. We are always happy to head down there for the live music on Thursdays!

Love the atmosphere. Very cozy, warm low lighting and relaxing. The have a piano in the back. Would have been nice to hear some live piano playing. I never seem to be there when they do that though. I heard they have someone play sometimes.🤔
Drinks were good, service was nice and our appetizer was yummy. We had their take on Canada's foods poutine. It was really cheesy and delicious.
I would go back to bathe myself in their cheesy gravy fries, plus the lighting and atmosper of this place.

My guy and I tried this place lastnight for date night. We were very pleased. Great place all the way around. It has a "speak easy" feel. Simple menu which is brilliant. Food was fantastic! We had the onion rings, he had the burger and i had the shrimp n grits. So tasty! I highly recommend this unique new establishment. And, try the Hemmingway Daiquiri- its phenomenal! Our server was fantastic too! Very little wait for drinks and food. Nice job to the owners, management and employees! We will definately be back!

Stave & Hoop is genuinely one of the coolest places I've been to in Missoula. It has quickly become my go to when people want to get a quick drink.
If you're looking for fun drinks their whole drink menu is fantastic. They have a great selection of wines too. The food is delicious, and I can't pick just one favorite.
The atmosphere is so fun and the staff is AMAZING. The staff as a whole really goes out of their way to make sure you feel welcome.

I just discovered this cool bar last week, and I gotta say, I had a great time. The atmothere was awesome and I really enjoyed my drink. The drinks are a little pricier, but this is also not a dive bar, so I dont have a problem paying for the experience. I look forward to going back again and again. I think I have a new favorite spot!
