Welcome to Growth Therapy, your premier resource for child and adolescent counseling. You are the expert about your child, and no one knows your child's unique strengths and weaknesses better than you. Children demonstrate behaviors for a variety of different reasons, some of which are completely normal and some which may be concerning.
If you are concerned about your child's behavior you are right to look for more information. Together, you and I can work to help your child improve socially, academically and emotionally. Growth Therapy is a part of Athens Center for Counseling and Play Therapy. In 2015 Leigh Ellen and Leslie Schwartz formed Athens Center for Counseling and Play Therapy as a physical space for therapists who want to focus on working with children and families.

Services
Through It Takes A Village, I offer online parenting support specifically surrounding changing behaviors in the home. If you want support in helping your child to change certain behaviors without shaming or yelling, this is a cost-effective and time-efficient way to get that information and support.
Introducing It Takes A Village, a new training and support system for parents. This series will be on understanding and changing behaviors with your child. These may be behaviors that are oppositional in nature, but they may just be innocent behaviors that are a result of a lack of skill in a particular area.
No matter what the issue, if your child is under 18 I will always want to speak to parents for the initial intake session. I will be gathering pertinent information, family history, and parental concerns, and providing information as to how I work. Young children will not need to be present for this appointment (they usually find it boring).
I will get back to you promptly to offer you an appointment slot and send you an invitation to the online client portal, where you can access paperwork and schedule an appointment. Briefly describe why you are seeking counseling or consultation services (divorcing, problems with peers, etc) and if you are seeking specific services (consultation, well child check up, etc.).
Social story for elementary students who will be returning to school via distance learning. Okay, play therapists, we've got this. We are pros at flexibility and coming up with ideas in the moment, right? Social distancing offers quite the challenge for play therapists who do child-centered work, but we are a creative bunch.
