The Children's School of Boise works to help each child build a strong sense of self, creativity in thinking, expressing, problem solving, and an eagerness to learn. Our small group settings, excellent teacher-child ratios, a balance of teacher-planned and child-initiated activities help young children develop competence and confidence as learners.

As we celebrate over 40 years, we once again affirm the value of children growing and learning in our stimulating, nurturing environment from toddlerhood through second grade. Although I expected my children to learn and to make new friends while they were at The Children's School, I never expected to learn so much and make so many new friends myself!
Services
The Children's School of Boise is an independent, non-profit school founded in 1980 by Mary Clagett Smith. Our educational programs emphasize that affective (emotional) development is equally important as cognitive (thinking) development. Both function simultaneously to determine what is learned.

Since the early 1900's this approach, known as Developmental Interaction, has evolved through research and analysis at Bank Street College of Education in New York City.It is a coherent integration of developmental psychology, cognitive theory and educational theory and practice.
First there is involvement with open-ended materials or play. Play is the backbone of early childhood education. At TCS play is worthy of our closest teaching attention and we support it in happening in every classroom, from the Youngest Preschoolers to the Primes. There is a period of time each day in each classroom when children are able to make choices from the open-ended materials teachers have chosen for them.
As a non-profit, independent school, we emphasize healthy child development and stimulating learning for young children and their families. We offer a variety of part-day, part-week programs for young preschool, preschool, pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten-age children. We also offer two full-day options.
Applications for enrollment are accepted at any time. Enrollment priority is given first to current school families, then alumni families. Remaining openings are filled by new families from our waiting list according to date of application. To apply, please complete the online application below and use the Pay Now option to submit your application fee.
At The Children's School, outside time spans a variety of activities. Outside time at TCS involves bike riding, tree climbing, chasing games, and sledding. But outside isn't only for big play. It's time to build a cozy nook with hollow blocks; gather acorns and crab apples for an inspired art installation, craft a habitat for creatures both imaginary and real.
