Originally known as Hansen-Shoenfeld Funeral Home, the business was founded in 1939, by the partnership of Mathias J. "Mat" Hansen and Otto Schoenfeld. In 1945, the partnership between Mat and Otto was dissolved due to the ill health of Mr. Schoenfeld. The funeral home then became solely owned by Mat Hansen and renamed Hansen Funeral Home.
Later that same year, Mat moved the business to a home located on the Southeast corner of Prospect Street and St. Paul Avenue. To help make ends meet during those early years, Mat worked at the funeral home during the day and also worked as a 3rd shift supervisor at the Beloit Iron Works.

My five children were not prepared nor was I until the funeral that Hansons does not and bomb the bodies they care for. They don’t need to buy state regulation because they have a below ground Area to store the bodies. On July 2000 to my children and I were flabbergasted that their fathers body smelled nothing like anything we have experienced before. Rotten meat and vomit. 17 years later this still has scarred our family.

I attended a funeral of a close family friend this week and was very impressed with the services that were provided. I was very impressed with the young assistant helping. Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home also took care of the funerals for both of my parents years ago. They do an excellent job and are very thoughtful and caring to your family needs.
