Early Childhood Center (ECC) offers a play-based learning program for children ages 2 - 5 years old. Families love our small class sizes, low student to teacher ratios, nurturing environment and highly qualified degreed teachers. Voted consistently as "Best for Families" in the Washington Family Magazine annual survey, we have been an integral part of the Rockville community for 50 years!
Our nurturing community is a critical component of why children thrive at ECC. Family friendly events through out the year bring the ECC community together. Whether its relaxing on the playground after classes, marching in the City of Rockville Memorial Day parade or celebrating fall at our Annual Fall Festival, there are lots of opportunities for families to get together and make life-long friendships.
Our developmentally appropriate and child-centered program promotes hands-on, active learning for children ages 2-5. Children learn best with purposeful play-based lesson plans that foster learning through exploration and encourage independence. Our teachers work individually with each child to develop positive self-esteem, social competency, essential skills in literacy and math, and a love of learning.
Early Childhood Center uses Creative Curriculum to reflect our play-based philosophy and guide the teachers' lesson planning as children develop through the years. We respect each child's developmental progress and encourage growth in eight different areas including social and emotional development, problem-solving skills, literacy, math and science.

My daughter attended ECC as a 4-year-old and this is my son's 2nd year there. I wish we would have found this school earlier for my daughter! The small class sizes with highly-skilled and friendly staff/teachers make my children (and me) very comfortable, and the students get the attention they need. Their curriculum is very developmentally appropriate, as it is play-based. I also love that they seem to emphasize fostering the social-emotional development that is needed for success in elementary school. We wanted to something part-time, so the flexibility in different schedules is great too

ECC is a wonderful preschool and we highly recommend it. The teachers are warm, fun, and consistently impress me. Our oldest son attended from age 2 to age 4 and loved it (and still comments about how much he misses his teachers and classmates). When he moved onto Kindergarten, his teachers were impressed with how much Kindergarten curriculum he already knew at the start of the school year - all thanks to ECC. He was definitely set up for success. Our youngest is now attending ECC and loves it as well. The Director and staff are friendly and helpful, the class sizes are small, and the school has

I wish I could give 6 stars for ECC. My son started at ECC when he was 2 and will soon be starting his second year there. The staff is excellent and our son loves his classmates and teachers. I saw another review mention Bailey, and I just wanted to chime in and say she's been nothing but wonderful in any kind of situation (happy or challenging).
My wife and I looked at a lot of places in and around Rockville, and ECC was our top choice. And they've never once let us down. Definitely give them a shot if you're looking for a place for your little one(s).

Be very careful. The director Bailey is very misleading about the programs available and when you try and withdraw she will try and overcharge you.
Best to avoid this program.

My son attended the three morning a week three year old program here this year and loved it. His vocabulary and social confidence just exploded. The teachers are wonderful and so such creative things with the kids. This is a play based preschool that follows the creative curriculum. The teachers are patient and loving. Strongly recommended.

My daughter is in her second year at ECC now, and she loves it! We chose ECC because the director was so warm and inviting when we came for an impromptu tour. I actually went into ECC by mistake but felt very welcomed! And it was really refreshing to be welcomed for a tour without an appointment. The director is incredibly friendly and professional. And the teachers are wonderful. I truly feel like they know my daughter well and nurture her warmly. I have also been really impressed with the play-based curriculum. Even though it is play-based, my daughter has learned so much. She writes

My son has been at ECC for two years and loves it. He started as a 2 year old going two mornings a week and this year he is going 5 mornings a week. The flexibility in scheduling is wonderful. My husband stays home with our son, so it's nice to have a balance between school social time in the mornings and time just hanging out with dad in the afternoon.

The teachers are wonderful and super caring. The new interim director is not only warm, but really knows her stuff and is pushing to move forward the mission of the school. ECC offers a nice community for children to grow and parents

I've had a child at ECC for several years. The teachers are amazing and the classes are small. The teachers work hard to develop small people who think critically and creatively, while also encouraging kindness and self confidence. AMAZING!

Bravo to the fantastic teachers!

The reason I didn't give 5 stars? The management. There have been leadership issues and conflicts between the board and the previous director. There is currently an interim director.

That being said, it is the teachers who are most important and those are top notch!

We've been at ECC for 2 years now and couldn't be happier with the experience. ECC applies a learning through play philosophy, small class sizes and fantastic teachers. I'm constantly amazed at the changes in my daughter as she grows in this nurturing atmosphere. We're looking forward to our 3rd year with ECC before starting kindergarten.
