Families arrive at the decision to adopt a child or children for a multitude of reasons. Some families want to grow their families, are looking to give back to children in need, or in some instances families never intended on adopting and family or kinship circumstances bring children into their lives unexpectedly.
A dependency is when a child is made a temporary ward of the court because of an allegation that there is no appropriate parent willing or able to parent at the time the petition was filed. The Department of Child Safety (DCS), formerly known as Child Protective Services (CPS) is the most common petitioner in dependency cases.
There are two different guardianships available for children in Arizona. They are commonly referred to as Title 8 or Title 14 guardianships, named for the titles under which they are found in the Arizona Revised Statutes. Guardianships are used to provide legal authority of a child or children, while parental rights remain intact.
There are a number of grounds for terminating parental rights under Arizona law. Mrs. Myers graduated magna cum laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelors's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with concentrations in International Business and Spanish. Mrs. Myers then obtained her Juris Doctorate from Phoenix School of Law, graduating 4th in her class.

Jamie Myers was recommended to us at a critical time 2019. We needed a voice in the court system to protect our family when some un-substantiated "allegations" were made and we needed to make sure our children were not removed while we disputed the charges. Jamie fought on our behalf so that we were able to go and prove our innocence. We could not have done it without her! In Feb 2021 we were successfully able to adopt our last and final sibling placement with her assistance!

Jamie represented my family for our adoption in Pinal County. It had been a rocky few years to get to that point, and when it came time for the adoption to happen, we were in the middle of the pandemic and our hearts were broken, that it was going to happen over the phone. She and her staff arranged to do the adoption via Zoom, and we got to see the Judge and her in person. It was very thoughtful, and meant a lot to our family! She provided us with a packet of forms, and realistic time frames for how to get things done after the adoption was final, and even help fix the mistakes the court made
