Wu Dao Kung Fu & Tai Chi
We are happily back in the classroom! At this time we are continuing to hold our online schedule along with our live classes, though that option will likely be removed as the Fall approaches. See you in class!. Wu Dao is the premier Chinese martial arts school and training facility in the Greater Boston area.

Located in Cambridge, MA, the school teaches Choy Lay Fut (Cai Li Fo) Kung Fu, Shaolin Kung Fu, and Yang Style Tai Chi (Taiji Quan) to adults and children, starting 6 years old. We offer classes six days a week, plus a special invitation only conditioning program on Sundays.
Services
Wu Dao directly translates to "Martial Way." It is composed of the Chinese characters Wu, or "martial, " and Dao, or the "way" or "path." Wu Dao is therefore the martial artist's path, which is characterized by the strong physical and mental discipline required to practice Kung Fu or Tai Chi. There is a strong correlation at Wu Dao to the Japanese term "Budo" which, same as in Chinese, means the "martial way", or the "way of war."
All Kung Fu & Tai Chi classes are available for both in-person and online ZOOM attendance as your schedule and comfort level allows. Check below for pricing, schedule and class details. Members can cancel at any time with no cancellation fees. However, they must inform administration before their billing date, as once billed, our membership payments are non-refundable.
Please fill in your full name, phone number, what class times would work best for you, and, if you wish to register your child, you should also include their date of birth. As we only allow a maximum of two trial students per class, please send us a few class slots to choose from that suit your schedule.
IMPORTANT REGARDING PAYMENT: If you have any trouble with your payment, you are welcome to send your fee through the mail to 130 Smith Place, Cambridge MA, 02138, or you can bring cash or check to the event. Please arrive a half hour before your divisions begin to give yourself time for registration, orientation and warm up.
From Boston/Logan - Starting on I-90 West, take Exit 20 toward Cambridge. Turn left on Soldiers Field Road, heading toward Arlington/Fresh Pond Pkwy. Follow signs to Fresh Pond Pkwy. On Fresh Pond Pkwy, you will come to two rotaries. At the second rotary, take the second exit off of the rotary (Shell gas station).

Wu Dao classes are fun and challenging, the ability of the instructor to lead a quality class for students at all different levels is astonishing. The community of students is very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!

I have been going here for over 12 years, and I absolutely love it. The instructor (and owner) is amazing and I love the method of training. This is the place to go if you want to learn self defense, or just want a place to train your body (and mind).

I have been a practitioner of traditional kung fu for about 10 years. I am nowhere near being a master, but I definitely feel like I know a legit Chinese Martial Arts school when I see one. Wu Dao is the real deal! I had the pleasure of meeting Sifu Lindsay in person in August and attending one of her classes.
The training methodologies are legit, the techniques are practical and feel immediately applicable in a real fight situation, and the experience is just pleasant all around.
The CMA community here in the states can really use more practitioners and instructors like Lindsay. She knows how

I have been a fan of Wu Dao for ten years. Shifu Lindsay (owner and instructor) is able to integrate advanced practitioners with beginners, unlike many studios. She also has introduced me to a variety of techniques and disciplines, broadening my practice.

Absolutely the best in the area for traditional Kung Fu & Tai Chi. This school has everything- fighting, forms, weapons, meditation, ethics, a beautiful training hall, and a non-complicated membership system. Every class is challenging and invigorating, and the instructors are well educated in their particular fields.

The community here is outstanding. The dynamics between the students is always friendly and encouraging, there is not a trace of any -funny martial arts weirdness- often seen in certain schools (a la the "foot fist way" etc.. ). The instructors are approachable and

I have trained in at least 3 different martial art schools (and tried out numerous) and Wu Dao is easily the best school I've attended. What I appreciate most about Wu Dao is how much "brain" they put behind their martial art training. Instead of blindly following traditional teachings without understanding the mechanisms and logic behind the movements, the head Shifu Tim Hartman and his instructors spend a lot of time dissecting the forms and techniques and only teach what make sense. They also develop different ways of teaching the same techniques based on the student's

I started training at Wu Dao about two years ago in Tai Chi. I had trained with another shifu in the 70's in Berkeley CA and had loved it and for years had vowed to return to the discipline.

My neighbor was taking Kung Fu at Wu Dao and recommended it highly, so one day I impulsively went and took a morning introductory class. I signed up a couple of days later. To accommodate my work schedule I took morning and Saturday classes (3 classes a week). The class is taught as a martial art - rigorous (but not punishing), with an eye on self-defense. One learns a short form first before moving

My 5-year-old son had been in the Pee Wee class for more than 5 months. It's a nice space and perhaps it's a good studio for adult students, but my son had a negative experience with the teachers there.

He liked the class for several months, but started being a little bored with the same format. He was tired when I brought him to class once, and shifu was very hard on him and another girl before they even got into the studio-- basically making them sit completely still and threatening them in a raised voice. I was quite put off by it but marked it down to discipline and thought things

Over the last 10 years, I have studied several different styles of Martial Arts w/ several different schools from small classes to large commercial classes. Wu Dao Kung Fu & Tai Chi by far surpasses all the other schools I have studied at! I particularly like the attention to detail and that the emphasize is on being good at the styles they teach and not just being promoted to the next rank or learning forms. The teachers and other students create a great atmosphere for learning, everyone is friendly and supportive. They offer several classes per week so that I have been able to train 5-6

At Wu Dao, they make sure you'll be the best you can be. Every since I started my kung fu journey here, I have vastly improved my physical and mental well-being. Classes are always challenging and varied, focus on detail, and are customized to your level of fitness and experience. Shifu Tim will not let you be until you perfect that stance or form, and that's how it should be.

My 6-year old son takes the children's classes here, and again, nothing but praise for Shi Shong Orlando, who teaches with great passion and humor. Before class Shi Shong usually has a get-together where various

I've been trying to find a way to motivate myself towards better fitness. After having a party conversation with a friend, I remembered that I always wanted to try martial arts as a child. So why not start now - better late than never? After discussing with friends the right type of martial arts to try, I settled on kung fu. I consulted the Yelp reviews and noticing the close proximity to my home and work, I figured I'd try Wu Dao. Boy, am I glad I did!

It's now been 6 months since starting at Wu Dao and have had no regrets. I considered myself out of shape and muscularly

I've been practicing martial arts most of my life, and when I moved to the Boston area I went around to a lot of schools, even attempted one, but nothing seemed to work. I found Wu Dao. Wu Dao worked excellently with my schedule (9 adult kung fu classes a week, 5 tai chi) and although I started with a very external approach to martial arts, I now have an infinitely depeening appreciation for Tai Chi. Everything Shifu teaches is backed up with practical application and body mechanics.

I've been going to Wu Dao for about four months now and it has been the best decision I have made in terms of both my fitness and mental state. When I started attending classes I was completely out of shape and concerned it would affect my ability to participate; this hasn't been the case at all. Shi-fu Tim has put together a training program that allows beginners and those in poor physical condition to feel right at home from the start and begin to see improvement almost immediately. I can't say enough about the instructors and the other students, I'm so glad to have found

I joined Wu Dao a year and a half to two years ago when it was still a young school, and I have had a wonderful time there. I have lost a ton of weight, and I have developed a passion for martial arts I never knew I had. The owner and head instructor, Shi-fu Tim, is always making improvements, both on the facility and the curriculum. All the other students are very friendly, and there is no need to feel intimidated or embarrassed.

I have to agree with Sharon's review wholeheartedly! I have been going to Wu Dao for almost two years now and have had the best time. I had no prior experience with any martial arts, but Wu Dao made me feel welcome and the atmosphere has never been intimidating. It's easy to connect with other students and it's become a great community.

The facility is a gorgeous big hall with an upstairs area. It has wooden floors and there are some bags on one side in the back and a stand with weapons on the other and that's it. For someone whose always hated gyms with all their machines

It's hard to find a good martial arts school. This one is terrific. The instructor runs the classes at a great pace. They're challenging and fun. He even incorporates yoga into the class. But the best part is the attention to detail. He manages to give everyone individual attention -- and correct your form to the smallest detail. As a result, you truly learn this art the right way -- with precision.
