Aikido Tekkojuku is a traditional dojo devoted to advancing Aikido as a path of both martial and personal growth. We practice in the tradition of Mitsunari Kanai (8th dan, Shihan), himself a disciple of Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei, the founder of Aikido. Kanai-Sensei's Aikido emphasizes the unification of the body; the generation of dynamic power from the hip (koshi); and the connection between empty-handed movements and sword movements.
Aikido is a Japanese martial way (do) which addresses conflict by harmonizing (ai) the energies (ki) of the conflicting parties. Technical growth in how to move the body, express power, and perform effective techniques. Aikido was developed in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, a master of the arts of jiujitsu (grappling), kendo (sword arts), and sojitsu (spear arts).
Itoh-Sensei began his Aikido training in 1973, at the Musashi University Aikido club in Tokyo, under the instruction of Norihiko Ichihashi Shihan. He went on to become captain of the club. Following his graduation in 1978, Itoh Sensei came to Boston, where he began studying under Mitsunari Kanai Shihan.
You can enjoy and grow in aikido at all levels of ability and physical state. You will learn coordination, power, and martial principles through your practice. Instructors expect that their classes will include students with diverse body types and experience levels, and teaching accordingly. That's not a question!
We at Aikido Tekkojuku commit to supporting the success of all those who wish to practice budo, including those of every race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and ability. We condemn discrimination on the basis of identity in all its forms, and do not tolerate such discrimination in our dojo.
