James T. Cummings, Sr. founded E.G. Cummings Funeral Home with the idea of giving comfort and personal services to families during a difficult and uncertain time. Today, James Jr., Jackie and family are proud to continue this tradition of delivering caring, personal and professional services at affordable prices.
He graduated from Alabama State Laboratory High School and later received his B.S. degree in education from Alabama State University. He worked as a jewelry salesmen with John Roberts and was a limo and hearse salesman with Jack Terrell, Montgomery, Al. Because of family connection with the funeral business, Tokey became interested in the funeral home industry.
A funeral or memorial is a customary way to recognize death and its finality. Funerals are held for the living to show respect for the dead and to help survivors begin the grief process. They also give mourners a chance to share stories, create memories, fulfill religious beliefs & customs, participate in a support system, and gather at a peaceful place during a time of confusion and uncertainty.
Holding a funeral or memorial service for your loved one is a positive first step in the grieving process. Family members and friends get a chance to say their goodbyes, and at the same time, they get to share strong feelings with one another. In the days, weeks and months following the service, people continue to need others to lean on for understanding, encouragement and guidance.

This is a special place for our family. They've handled many family members for me and our family. We are forever grateful for their devoted services to our beloved families that has fallen asleep. My recent experience with Cummings was nothing less than the best. The level of customer service my family received goes unmatched. Each representative we interacted with was transparent and gave us their undivided attention. They were very understanding and accommodating. Not to mention, the quality of skill; we were extremely impressed with their workmanship. I thank the E.G. Cummings Staff for taking care of my family during our time of bereavement, as they went the extra TWO miles (not the extra mile) – Cummings definitely under promised and OVER delivered!

While operating under its founder/original owner, E. G. Cummings funeral home was a very professional, caring funeral home. Unfortunately, the service has deteriorated. E. G. Cummings funeral home now employs some unprofessional staff members. Even though the founder's son tries his best to operate the funeral home as his father, it still doesn't negate the rude, unprofessional employees here. My family has used E. G. Cummings funeral home for decades; however, I have updated my will to instruct the executor of my estate/family to choose another funeral home if I pass away.
