I was one of the original tenants at 1451 W. Flournoy Street when it first opened in the summer of 1976. I came across the website for University Rentals today by chance, and it was fun and nostalgic to see the comments from current renters.
Because of their location, these units have always been ideal for responsible adults who study or work at the nearby medical district. I’m glad to see that Mrs. Gould is still in charge of the operation. As other writers have noted, she is now and has always been “tough, but fair.” That being said, it shows that she really cares about her buildings and

Stayed for almost 1 year at their Flournoy St apartment. The place was very modern, safe, and well maintained. Few examples: all light fixtures used Led bulbs (instead of CFL), large granite kitchen counter tops, GE Dishwasher, large Hotpoint fridge, over the range microwave, leftover food disposal system, central heat-cooling, low-flow toilet, and easy to clean glass shower doors.
The owner (Mrs. Gould) was very responsive (<24hrs) to requests and had full-time maintenance workers on her payroll which made things easier. She may seem stern at times but overall is a reasonable landlord.

If I could give it 0 dollars I would. This crazy lady told me I could have turtles then 1 month before I'm moving out tells me "you can't have turtles" and tries to make me get rid of them.... not to mention I have about 30 plants and she said I had to get rid of them also, I painted casually In the apartment as I was an art major and doing art classes, and she told me I COULDNT PAINT I never got any paint on the ground and I used non flammable paints. You can't have candles, incense, and she will come in without any notice and send her workers early in the morning without

I lived in one of University Rental's units for two years during medical school. The apartment itself was very nice, with a short walking commute to the numerous hospitals in the area. However, most impressive was the responsiveness of the landlord and maintenance crew to any requests. The unit and building as a whole were very well maintained, but in the event that a repair was needed, or even if a light bulb needed changed, they were extremely responsive. In fact, it was common for the request to be completed the very same day. I would recommend University Rentals to any professional or

Do not live here. The landlord is completely immature and disrespectful. Maintenance will walk in unannounced. I've been in the shower and sleeping and all of a sudden I hear someone enter my apartment and start walking around. The landlord has also walked in with prospective tenants for a showing without notifying me and just said that she "wanted to show them what a two bedroom looked like real quick". As I was moving out I was sent several emails telling me that she wants me to leave a few days before my lease ended so the new tenant could move their stuff in. I told her I wouldn

I lived in a University Rentals apartment for my four years of medical school. The location was perfect for walking to class and the apartment was well-maintained. However, it was the owner that really made the apartment special. She and her staff took great care to make my apartment feel like home. I would recommend University Rentals to anybody looking to live and work in the area!

At first I was pretty happy in my apartment just recently I moved out. This place is a joke. The landlord doesnt tell you when maintenance people are coming. Before I moved in I saw reviews of this which were true. I would walk in to my apartment and someone would be there doing something. Before I moved out I have maintenance men there 7 days a week for 2 weeks. I felt like the apartment wasnt mine. When I was leaving I was told they were ripping up my floor which all my stuff was on. I told them they cant do that since I was moving out that day and my stuff was staying there. They were rude.

Fyi: from my stay in 2013 to 2014. Just watched a tv show that brought back the bad memories of this landlady.
Cons: 1. My room was always cold and my roomies was always hot. 2. landlady is super rude. 3. She made unannounced visits with guests even when you were showering. 4. She charged us for giving her back a copy of our room key instead of the original when that was the "original" she gave us. 5. Final straw- she pushed us out on our 2nd to last day of the lease so she could clean for the next victim... um, am I not still paying for this apartment?
Pros: 1. cheap rent for the

I haven't hesitated to recommend University Rentals to several friends, and here's why:
1. Very competitive value for the neighborhood. It's an expensive neighborhood to live in, but these units are great value. I found only one or two options on the public listings that were less expensive, and those units were poorly maintained.
2. When things go wrong, she gets them fixed immediately. I once sent in a notice of a plumbing issue, and got a reply within 2 minutes, "it will be fixed tomorrow." The next day, the problem was fixed. The army of workers are polite, prompt

Rented with the landlord for a year and was one of the worst experiences. The apartment had a heating issue during the winter where the living room would be very chilly while the bedrooms warmed up like a sauna. Furthermore the landlord would come in unannounced, and even took pictures of our rooms without our knowledge. Finally she scammed us out of our security deposit claiming they needed to clean our apt when we left the apartment in pristine condition. Avoid at all costs.
