Equilibrium Physical Therapy
We believe PT should be different. Declining reimbursement rates are driving PT practices to become high volume mills where focused clinical care is replaced by rushed service and divided attention. EQPT is a boutique PT setting where the art and atmosphere of healing is not compromised by overbooking.

Equilibrium Physical Therapy is dedicated to Evidence-Based Practice! We value the ability to provide care that is proven to have clinical efficacy which is supported in the literature. It is imperative as our profession moves forward to focus on evidence-based practice in order to improve the quality of care we deliver to all our patients.
Services
EQPT is a custom-built studio with tons of natural light, bamboo floors, two beautiful mirrored studios, private treatment rooms, and hand selected original art from internationally recognized artists. Each treatment room is appointed with a manual therapy hi/lo mechanical treatment table, memory foam pillows and a skilled smiling clinician.
Our doctors of physical therapy are skilled at treating all orthopedic and neurological conditions. Our board-certified specialists are some of the best clinicians in NYC, and we pride ourselves on making sure each clinician is the perfect fit for you and your condition. If you have any special requests for providers or wish to inquire as to which clinician may fit best with your diagnosis and personality, we would love to chat with you!
Post-operative management does not have a cookie cutter outline to follow. Every surgery has a different protocol of progression, and every surgeon has a different preference for each protocol. That said, each patient progresses with variability, and it's imperative that a skilled physical therapist guides you through your recovery with attention to your individual case and rate of recovery.
All EQPT physical therapists are skilled in orthopedic manual therapy and have achieved post-doctorate level training in spinal and peripheral joint mobilization and manipulation. Manual therapy has been proven in the literature to facilitate the rehab process, speed up recovery, reduce pain, and improve outcomes when compared to exercise alone.
Our lower extremity experts cast and mold your orthotics on site after performing a thorough lower quarter alignment exam from head to toe. We evaluate your skeletal alignment, gait mechanics, forefoot to rearfoot structure, and foot type before casting your feet. We then decide with you what materials would be best suited for your foot structure considering the types of shoes you prefer to wear and what activities you will be performing.

I had a very difficult problem to resolve, as it was an illness that was hard to diagnose.
The physical therapists that worked with me were all very knowledgeable , impressively so, and my equilibrium problem was resolved within the time period that they said it would be. I was very much relieved and thankful that I had found this place.
The whole staff that I dealt with was very professional, and that includes the receptionists also, who were very accommodating to my schedule.

I have had the great opportunity to meet the most caring physical therapist I have encountered after many years of surgeries and aftercare..Dr. Madison Oak at Equilibrium PT.. takes care of the whole person..She is both smart and very concerned that I get back my strength and confidence that was sorely missing..for the first time ever a PT has emailed me on her own time to see how I was doing.. I'm so grateful to have come to Equilibrium and worked with Dr.Oak..she is a very special person and I will always look to her for my PT needs..

I went to Matt (owner) with a knee problem about 10 years ago and he was great! When I now discovered my current neck issue I tracked him down to his new business and he put me together with Michaela, who is wonderful. She is knowledgeable, thorough, and delightful. I am progressing along and very thankful.
I can highly recommend Matt, Michaela, and Equilibrium!

I had my first physical therapy visit with Garry Cowell PT, DPT, OCS. Garry was very professional and warm. He gave me a thorough exam even though I was a bit late. I highly recommend this office. Unfortunately this is my last visit as they are out of network for my insurance provider but they were very acommodating with setting me up with an appointment quickly along with pricing for my initial visit.

Garry is by far the best physical therapist I have been to. He was kind, easy going, professional, knowledgeable and overall, a true pleasure to work with. When I came in I was just recovering from bunion surgery and was in constant pain. Garry did a thorough assessment of me and focused on how I already moved to see where I needed to go. Through stretching and strengthening the muscles needed to reduce compensation and the resulting pain and strains resulting from this, Garry was able to get me back to doing all the things I love most like weight lifting, yoga, and wearing high heels. Could not be worse. I have been to other PT for other different injuries. I see rave reviews about Matt, but he is not taking new patients. My PT at Equilibrium, with therapists (plural, because they couldn't give me appointments with the same therapist, because of their scheduling issues) was not effective at all. I tried to call about my issues. No one returns phone calls. Matt who is the owner, did not return my calls. My therapists did not return phone calls. When I spoke to the office manager (who has no medical training) about my issues, she was unbelievably nasty, rude and not helpful

I broke my ankle in November 2016 and, after many weeks of immobilization, I needed physical therapy. Just by luck I found Equilibrium, and I am so glad I did! My regular weekly appointments with Samantha Savit were extremely helpful and rewarding; when I arrived in January I could barely walk, but by the time of my last visit in May I was literally "back on my feet."

The facility is clean, bright, and state-of-the-art equipped. Visits are luxuriously long at 45 minutes, compared to some places that hustle you out in a half-hour. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. They

I've been going to Equilibrium since it opened several years ago, had been going to another Physical Therapist before then. The physical therapists there give more focused and individualized therapy to patients, more than any other PT facility I've been to before. They are extremely accommodating to fit patients schedules and have state of the art training equipment.
My favorite piece of equipment is the Anti Gravity treadmill. It helped get back to running at a gradual pace by using state of the art technology to reduce body weight while learning how to run again.

I've never felt compelled to write a negative review for a healthcare-related business, but I've never had as awful of an experience as I did at Equilibrium Physical Therapy.

For a business that ostensibly exists to help heal people who are in pain, I have to say that I did not feel well cared for either with the administration of my account or with the physical therapist.

As far as my account, they overcharged my credit card on file and did not get my insurance pre-approved in time for my appointment, although they said that they would handle it.

For whatever it's worth, I

There is no way that I can find enough good things to say about Matt Rome and the Equilibrium practice as a whole. I had an injury about 5 months ago that has caused me to need to go to therapy about 3 times a week, which I am still attending. I was confused on how to find a good therapist in the area, but then I came across Matt Rome's info. From the very first moment I called, they were extremely receptive and flexible in finding the times for me to come in. Matt has made me feel totally comfortable and confident in my healing process. He is always completely focused on me the entire

I have seen Matt Rome for a couple different knee injuries over the years. He has been incredibly adept at both guiding me through a full ACL rehabilitation and also utilizing various treatment methods depending on my condition at a particular time. He is very knowledgeable about identifying the causes of certain types of pain, discomfort, stiffness, etc. and treating it appropriately. Matt is very focused and caring in his approach and considers the whole picture when treating a condition. Highly recommend.

I have found the fountain of youth! I have been seeing Physical Therapist, Gabriel Ettenson, for over a year for lower back pain and rheumatoid arthritis. I found him to be a knowledgable therapist with up to date information and innovative techniques. This September, he opened Amplitude Vibration Studio in conjuction with Equilibrium Physical Therapy. Whole body vibration is an amazing way to get a core work out, no matter what your level of conditioning, and it provides other positive health effects such as increased bone density. He also offers services such as the Alter G anti gravity
