Graston technique is a form of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization used to break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions to treat both chronic and acute soft tissue conditions and injuries. The Graston procedure allows us to detect and treat problem areas in the muscles, tendons and ligaments that can reduce range of motion and cause pain.
Many of our martial artist-patients tell us they have been disappointed with the Physical Therapy they have received at other practices in the past. The truth is, most physical therapists and physical therapy practices have little experience treating martial artists. They are not familiar with demands of martial arts training and competition.
ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Tendonitis, shin splints, muscle strains, low back pain, neck pain, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis are just a few of the many conditions that respond well to A.R.T. treatment.

The difference between City PT and the larger, fancier establishments, which are good facilities also: There is ongoing attention and considerably less customers for City Physical Therapy to keep up with at the same time.

A friend referred me to this practice after I mangled my knee. Location is pretty convenient and they also have a midtown office.
The care is great! A combination of soft tissue work or, as I like to refer to it, painful massage, exercises, homework and icing.
Everyone I've come across is lovely and after 3 sessions, my knee is feeling loads better

I love this facility on Baxter St. for PT. Everybody is very friendly and professional. My PT therapist knows her stuff! But I feel they all do. I like that they have early hours which works with my schedual when I worked. Due to the pandemic, they keep all the equipment clean as well.
You won't be disappointed.

Having gone through several injuries and different PTs in the past, I can confidently say that Dan is hands down the best in the profession. I went to him post a shoulder dislocation and with some existing knee pain. Throughout the month, he answered all of my questions and concerns, provided thoughtful assessments, challenged me and made me look forward to each visit as I felt stronger after each session. As a plus, the whole staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They're also keeping the facility clean and safe, with temperature checks and sanitizing the beds and equipments after each

I was suffering from lower back pain when I visited CityPT. Dan and his team were very knowledgeable and knew exactly where to target to ease my pain and strengthen my core to alleviate the pressure distribution. They also helped me set up a daily exercise program to improve my posture and lessen my pain. Everyone was friendly and professional. I felt very comfortable asking questions. My back feels so much better after three months of therapy. Thank you, everyone, for being great at what you do.

I've been doing jiu jitsu and Muay Thai for 15 years now and I am no spring chicken. Daniel and the gang a City PT are crucial for keeping my aging joints and ligaments in decent condition to continue my love of combat sports. My goal is to stay active into my "golden years," and their expertise is priceless for keeping me on the mats. Whether you're a weekend warrior like me, or a full-tilt extreme competitor, you'll want City PT in your corner.

A great physical therapy and rehabilitation center with an extremely friendly, smart, and helpful staff. I went a few months following my back surgery and have been provided consistent attention and care for my injury.
I have been to a handful of physical therapists throughout my recovery and none provided the care and knowledge that Helen has provided to help me with my injury. Helen and her staff are always coming up with creative and helpful ideas for me to work on the help with the recovery process.

I've been a patient of Dan's for a couple of months now. His Midtown location is pretty convenient and he always has a great playlist of songs going. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating.
Dan's martial arts background is primarily why I chose his practice. As an active Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner myself, Dan understands very well the stress I put my body through and works out a plan of action to keep you active without further damage. Highly recommend City PT!

The entire staff is extremely welcoming and the therapist are magicians! I had a bad knee injury and was skeptical about PT at first, but now I whole heartedly believe and recommend them to anyone!
I got injured in a Muay Thai competition and found myself limping and training on it for a month before I was recommended by a fellow teammate to try City PT. I was scheduled to have another fight a month later and I wanted to do anything to get me prepared. After my first visit I could feel a huge difference, I was committed to seeing City PT twice a week to help get me strong. By the time of my fight

Exceptional therapists and supporting staff with top notch equipment/ facilities.
They have amazing atmosphere to receive treatment where it's basically a fun activity rather than a " doctors appointment".
I'm a professional martial artist and this is my go to rehab facility. I've gone here for several injuries from weeks to months and all injuries have been fully rehabilitated.
The main PT is a trained martial artist of many years while several other PT's on the staff are competitive athletes themselves, so they know what they're talking about!

Dan and his staff are absolute miracle workers. I went in there with a shoulder that had been injured from weightlifting. I had figured it would eventually heal itself, but after a month of pain, I realized this was not going to happen. Dan has extensive experience in weightlifting and martial arts so he is much more familiar with sports-related injuries than most physical therapists.
He was able to quickly diagnose my problem explained in detail what was wrong and set me on a course of exercises, icing and lacrosse ball massages tailored to my injury. As I progressed, new exercises were introduced

Dan and his team are absolutely amazing. I sustained an impingement from over training and thought it would resolve itself with rest. After it started getting more painful, I knew I had to get help. A friend of mine recommended Dan after seeing him at his downtown location. He fixed me and allowed me to return to Olympic Weightlifting pain free. His clean facility and knowledgeable and super friendly staff made for a really enjoyable overall experience. Thanks guy!

UPDATE 2018. I went to another physical therapy place and I did have a tight iliopsoas and tight hip flexors. My issues that I developed at CITY PT are now completely gone with the care of ANOTHER physical therapy place. My hip is functioning the way it was BEFORE starting care at City PT meaning ABSOLUTELY NO MORE PROBLEMS. I don't have arthritis or over flexible joints as the owner of City PT tried to convince me. After City PT care I almost gave up hope on all physical therapists.

I went to City PT because I had pain in my knee. Not debilitating but annoying and to be addressed - if I have any desire to run or play sports again, I'm barely 40 and in average shape.
Initially I found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The initial consults were good and I had a plan in place. Each time in the beginning I had homework - I diligently followed the instructions.
All of a sudden, no homework came and I kept feeling like I need to go ask for the next steps - always. I really don't think I should have to pull teeth for my treatment plan. Yes, I ask a lot of questions

I'm so glad I was able to find such a wonderful Physical Therapy Clinic! All the staffs at City PT were wonderful, I had Shayna to assist my lower back problem and she was very gentle and patience with me. City PT always stick to their appointments and never fail to have their patients wait more than 10 minutes, they will assist you or you can start your regular exercises before the physical therapist starts to work with you.
I would definitely recommend all my friends to this clinic!

TL;DR: They're awesome, keep their patients happy and engaged, and have a fun globetrotting photo contest where the best submissions (by patients, posted all over both offices) wins $$!
My dreams of joining the circus/being a gymnast were put on hold when a decade-old shoulder surgery became a serious limitation in my aerial arts and contortion training. I had to undergo a near-circumferential labral repair in early May 2016. I've been seeing the therapists at both CityPT locations since the end of June (it's been about 2 months at this review) and they're wonderful! They each have their own style

I went to City PT Midtown in the fall of 2016 for chronic back pain due to scoliosis. After going twice a week for about 2 months, my back pain is alleviated and managed, and my core is strong! Dan was fantastic, professional, very clear and patient about exercises and how to do them, and very entertaining. PT doesn't seem like it would be enjoyable on principle but I throughly enjoyed my sessions and Dan/all the wonderful support staff in the office. I've been able to run again, a passion of mine, and no longer feel pain doing basic daily activities. I will definitely go back if anything else

Dan and his team are friendly and helpful. Never had to wait--even if I showed up early or late.
Seems like Dan knows his stuff and he definitely helped with my particular issue.
Like other PT places I've been to, the hands on portion of the visit is minimal. Most of the time is spent doing exercises or stretches and ice/stim.
There are some other PTs there, who I also liked, but you don't always know if you'll see Dan or one of the others, so ask if you're concerned.
Cash or check only for co-pays.
Be sure to get some sponge cakes from the place next door.

As someone who has worked at a desk job for close to twenty years and accumulated a number of self-inflicted injuries caused by prolonged sitting and inactivity, I have been through several physical therapy facilities over the years. City PT is the first and only place that has put me on the path of prolonged recovery. The facility is top notch with extremely well maintained equipment and support gear (and conveniently located to a number of trains!). The staff is patient and well versed in all areas of support necessary for a seamless & world class experience. This is NOT a churn and burn shop

I strained my gastroc, and was very eager to get back to running. When I mentioned to a friend that I was starting treatment at City Physical Therapy, she said, "They are great - they really understand athletes. And, every single person there cares about patients." My friend was right. My PT has been thorough, thoughtful, and well-supervised every step of the way. I initially went to the office in Chinatown, but was glad when they opened one in midtown near Times Square because it was an easier commute. Both offices are very clean and the staff professional and even fun! Anyway, I am happy to report

Dan and his staff are thoughtful, patient, and very knowledgable. I had two foot surgeries and Dan helped me recover through both of them (I even started running again) and went back to him during my pregnancy to address some back/joint issues. I would very highly recommend this practice for any PT needs as the one on one attention you receive is not easily found in NYC.
