Timberline Properties and Little Switzerland share a unique history. In the early days, Julian Davis Godwin Sr., originally of Orlando, Fla., was the first licensed real estate broker in the area. Today Jann Godwin and her firm, Timberline Properties Inc., carry on that tradition. Timberline Properties is a full service real estate and management firm with a reputation for offering quality properties and a tradition of overall excellence.

Timberline Properties offers the Buyer or Seller experience along with a personal touch not available in many of today's mega size real estate firms. A small town firm with big time experience and credentials, Timberline Realtors have extensive knowledge of the areas real estate markets. Jann Godwin, Broker/Owner of Timberline Properties, Inc., is a native of Charlotte, NC, but with deep roots in the Carolina mountains. Her husband, Davis Godwin, is a descendant of one of the original families to make Little Switzerland their summer home, and then later their full time home.

Jann and Davis have enjoyed ownership of their current chalet home in Little Switzerland for 19 years, and have made Little Switzerland their full-time home since 1999.Jann has served as President (2002) of the Yancey-Mitchell Board of Realtors; Board Member of the Yancey/ Mitchell Multiple Listing Service, and MLS Director and Publication Chairman.

Located in the "middle mountains of North Carolina", Burnsville is the perfect location for a Smoky Mountain vacation. Known for its beautiful town square, Burnsville is also the county seat for Yancey County - which in turn is the home to Mt. Mitchell (at 6,684 feet, the highest mountain east of the Mississippi) and 18 additional peaks with elevations exceeding 6,300 feet.

Little Switzerland received its name from early summer residents of the area who thought the scenery resembled that of the Swiss Jura Mountains. There may be new occupants of old houses or owners of new homes; the faces at Geneva Hall or the post office may have changed.

But, whether we came to Little Switzerland in 1910 or 1980, we all have in our hearts the misty blue hills, the white clouds over Linville, the play of light and shadow valleys, the passionate love of wildflowers and galax leaves and hummingbirds, and - always - a feeling of peace and quiet and foreverness when the sun shines down and the "clean winds of heaven: sweep over the mountaintop."
