John David Turnbull was born in Monmouth, the son of David and Ruth Buchholz Turnbull, he was reared and educated in the local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School.

The facility in Monmouth, IL is the original and most traditional of the two facilities offered by Turnbull Funeral Homes. It was initially built by David and Ada Turnbull, founders of the firm, to offer an alternative place for families to have the funeral for their loved ones. The original building was built on the corner of South Main Street at East Second Avenue in Monmouth, IL.
