We had a great 10 night stay here in Jan 2022. We had the ocean view larger room (230) and had a great time. Room wise it's 3 star hotel, but location and staff are 5 star. There is no breakfast due to covid, so a water kettle, coffee etc would have been good to have in the room. Heated pool was lovely was a huge plus in January!

+ Close to beach. 5 min walk
+ 5 min walk to bus stop
+ 5 min walk to grocery
+ Some restaurants within 10 min walking
+ 20 min bus to downtown
+ Nice manager
+ Less expensive than nearby place
+ Room is clean not sure about other reviews.
+ Daily maintenance
- Old room
- No AC but had fans. Fine in winter. Not sure in summer.
- Poor noise isolation. 2/3 provided fans are too noisy to use at night. Can hear people fighting all the time.
- No lounge
- Limited check-in hours so you have to arrive on time.
- Physical key so won't fit in wallet.
If you are willing to pay more I would

Half the price of other fancy beachfront hotels, if you don't mind a little hippy vibe. View to the ocean, listen to the crash of waves, a pleasure. Well maintained, clean, spacious room. Private patio with massive pots of interesting succulents in ground floor rooms.
Well stocked breakfast buffet if not for Covid.

The rooms are cozy and fairly comfortable. However there is no parking, no where to get or make coffee, no mirrors or sinks in the hotel room bathroom. They do not put coffee makers in the room and the continental breakfast/coffee are is closed for renovation. When we arrived with all our luggage we were told to try and find a spot on the street. The location is nice and the bed is comfortable.

The Cabrillo Inn at the Beach is AWESOME!!!
You've heard of Hot Tub Time Machine? Well, this motel is Motel Time Machine!
Staying at the Cabrillo takes me back to the early 70's! It's so outdated, it's AMAZING!
At least I got the room upstairs, I made my colleague stay in the creepy room downstairs with a sliding door entry (total dark cave too!)
If the outdated rooms don't get you, the goofball check-in process with the 10' pole and basket on the end will! Yeah, the staff in the office uses a pole with basket on the end to hand you everything - so cheeseball.

Pros: Location is amazing- close to the beach and walkable from all restaurants and shops. Room was clean enough and housekeeping was every day. Check in and check out was easy. Plenty of parking, never had a problem.
Cons: Rooms are a little dingy with dirty curtains and dark carpet and torn screen. Water from the office is really overpriced. Absolutely no amenities apart from the basic room, which is still OK for the price compared to the surrounding hotels.

Place have no air conditioning, our room was so hot that my friend was sweating. Ask office for a different room. Nope. Told me to use a fan and put it in the door all night. WHAT?? So I asked about being able to lock the door at night. They said no need. Wow. I'm not sleeping and/or be intimate with someone with a sliding glass door wide open all night. That's just asking for trouble. Homeless people walking around all over Santa Barbara. No coffee makers either. No worth 400 a night.

Dive with no amenities however the room does appear to be clean although quite run down. Also creeped out by check in process where the customer is blocked off from approaching the checking desk by a table and the guy behind the desk extends a basket taped to a pole that you have to put your credit card and ID in and he sends your paperwork back in. I get the whole COVID thing but you are already required to wear masks everywhere. Seems a little off-putting to transact this way. Felt almost like a joke. 2 stars are generous but that's for cleanliness. You get what you pay for but I still feel

Nestled between 2 stunning hotels is this retro sheik inn. Location, location, location! Now I admit it could use a bit of updating. But for an overnight stay, it was okay. Get ready for no frills. Floor fans, no coffee maker. Room was clean. We had a great time just hanging by the pool, talking with folks and enjoying the view. Just across the street is the beach. Very quiet.
To management: update your rooms! You have a great location. A little paint, a bit of attention to detail. The guys in the front desk were a hoot!
The staff were very friendly and attentive. Be aware that there

Location is excellent and a relative value being directly across from beach. Staff was friendly and professional. The facility is the issue. We stayed there a few years ago and it was ok. It's definitely run down from there. Uneven floors, bed dipped to one side, old carpet, patches on ceiling. No air conditioning, coffee makers in room and no coffee in the office, really? Easy to walk next door to nice hotel to get coffee and made me wonder why I didn't buck up and stay there in the first place. Next time we will.

This place is awful. I walked into my room and immediately turned around and checked out forfeiting the cost of the night’s lodging. The location is great, but that doesn’t compensate for the low quality of the rooms.
After I wrote this I did get a notification that my booking for the night was canceled. That was nice of them to do that.

We stayed in king size room with a little courtyard at a great price considering the beach is within 5 min walk of the inn. The staff is great and super friendly!! Would stay here over and over again!! I'm sure that other people would say this hotel needs to be upgraded but it serves for exactly what u need!! You made our stay a wonderful time!! Thank u

For $250 a night you expect certain accommodations focusing on security and privacy that this hotel does not have. The positives are the location and the pool, but unfortunately it has multiple problems, many which result from the lack of AC unit and inability to close the window. Plus, room wifi did not work much if at all most of our stay.
Because there is no AC in each room (which is fine because there is good weather), you are not able to close the window and instead there is a makeshift fan on the window that falls often. People walking by your room can see you fully. Second, since you cannot

It has nice view to the ocean. But it's carpet is dirty and smells . Doesn't have : air conditioning , hair drier , and furniture is old and doesn't match each other like, night stands gray color and bed brown and old. This room had spiders and the shower has mold. All the gates and fences are rusted. The pool has cracks and mold and they charge over 500 for 2 nights.

We stayed at this inn over the weekend. We loved it. The rooms are very nice and comfortable and clean. You can look out your door to see the ocean. It smells like heaven with all the flowers. Walls are a little thin, hearing people walk in the middle of the night. It's to be expected from a hotel. We loved the experience and we would go back.

This place is literally across the street from the beach and under $200/night! Need I say more?
Pros:
Did I mention, they're across the street from the beach?
Free parking.
Basic amenities are good.
Friendly staff.
Cheap rates.
Fans in the room.
View of the beach is amazing if you get an upper level beach view room.
Decent outdoor lounge areas.
Comfy bed.
Cons:
Outdated and not well maintained.
No microwave, clothes iron, or hair dryer.
No free breakfast due to Covid & offered nothing as compensation.
Bugs in the room (not bed bugs, thankfully).
Not guaranteed a parking spot.

Coming from someone who has stayed in almost every hotel/motel in Santa Barbara!!!-
you cannot beat this place. They are kind and helpful and the beach is a minute walk, no matter which room you get.
You will hear the ocean from your window, relaxing and welcoming.
If you want somewhere wonderful to stay- coming to or through SB- this is the best!!

Me and my girl stayed at Cabrillo Inn last weekend and I felt compelled to write a review to let future visitors know that this place tried to steal our money and on top of that the owner and the front clerk both were very rude and at some point owner lost his cool and started cussing me and my girlfriend out.
No work ethic in this place, will never stay here again
And suggest others to stay Away unless you want an unpleasant stay.
