Boondocks opened their doors over 25 years ago as a small ice cream shop. The current kitchen was the entire building. Quickly realizing Ramrod Key was in need of more than just ice cream the original owners expanded the menu to include sandwiches, and later added beer and wine to the mix. It wasn't until 2001 that the real transformation began to take place.
John, our CCE, Chief Culinary Expert, says, "Just because we're a great bar doesn't mean we can't have a great food menu". Boondocks "Southern Cooking Keys Style" takes quality Tropical Fare in generous portion size to a high level. After a long day in the sun or a decent drive down from the mainland it's always nice to know that extensive Boondocks menu is waiting to suit any kind of palate.
1/2 lb. Petite shrimp, lightly breaded and fried, then tossed in our secret spicy bang bang sauce. Golden house-made waffle chips, hickory smoked bacon, topped & baked with shredded smoked gouda and drizzled with buttermilk ranch. Cheddar cheese curds in a tempura beer batter, served with whole grain honey mustard and a strawberry marmalade.
Clean, intense aroma and bone-dry taste with an appealing flavor of Golden Delicious apples. Fresh, pure and complex white grapefruit, guava, green apple, honeydew melon and mineral aromas. Boasts fresh, fragrant, apple, melon and pear aromas with a hint of oak spice. Beautifully balanced yellow apple, nectarine and honeydew melon flavors with spicy oak tones.
The Florida Keys are all about perfect weather, cold drinks, fresh seafood, and live music. Boondocks has those things in abundance! What a gem!! We are staying at Boyd’s Campground and decided to drive around and explore. Great decision!! Tables are spaced out. Nice gift shop also. I don’t remember our servers name but she was great. Our group had the house salad with grilled shrimp, Cobb salad, chopped salad and smoked Gouda chicken sandwich. The salads were fresh and the citrus vinaigrette was different and delicious! The chips were homemade. I would come back here in a heartbeat.

We stopped here after getting turned away by a different restaurant on the island. Im almost glad because this restaurant was GREAT! First of all, i loved the decor. An entire wall of TVs, large open air seating, grass-hut, wood floors and bamboo trim. Very tropical and very location appropriate. The beer selection was great...served ice cold, filled to the top in true pint glasses. When we were sat down, a storm came through and we moved twice to avoid the rain. Our server Alex was very accomodating and despite the 2 moves, easily remembered our orders, made good recommendations, and our food

Have gone to boondocks at least once a week for 10 years. Not because it is fantastic but because it is close to home and acceptable. It has definitely gone down hill. Standards got lower and prices got higher. Asked to speak to the manager twice. He did not come over! Will drive the extra couple miles to Tonios or KiKis.

Nice place for a cold beer, frozen drink and great food. I have had several meals here and have been happy with everything that I have gotten. One of my favorite meals is the burgers. Any choice is good the the Black and Bleu is one of my favorites. The burgers have always been cooked perfectly to my temperature request. The flavors of the burgers themselves has put them in of the the top 5 burgers of all time for me. This is now a must stop for me whenever I'm in the area.

What a great place! It's huge and the set-up is very guest-friendly. The menu is quite expansive and offers dishes that we didn't find in other restaurants in the Keys.
They offer many large screen TVs and live music. The kitchen and bar teams were superior and our server handled our group of 11 with ease.
They have a gift shop on site with wonderful treasures you can't find anywhere else.

This is our go-to on every trip, sometimes 2 or 3 times. Great service, and we can always depend on the blackened grouper with mango balsamic glaze, the Miami vice, and cheese curds. We usually sit at the bar, occasionally a high top or table. But we have yet to make it to a happy hour. Some day we will!

Awesome place to spend the day. The restaurant itself is amazing and the food was excellent. We went with a large group and everything we ordered came out perfectly. My sister ordered their New England calm cowder in a bread bowl and their coconut shrimp, both were excellent. My other sister got the twin crab cakes and she loved it. A couple of people got a burger and it came out just the way they ordered it. My hubby and I both got the French dip Sandwich with fries and it was delicious. We didn't get an appetizers but the ones I saw pass by looked amazing.The beer was ice cold and their mixed
