What is a pediatric dentist? A pediatric dentist is a dentist who after four years of dental school has two to three more years of specialized residency training, including hospital training. The pediatric dentist is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years.

The very young, preteens and teens each need different approaches to dealing with their behavior, guiding their dental growth and development, and helping them avoid future dental problems. The pediatric dentist is best qualified to meet these needs. What does "Board Certified" mean?
Services
At Uptown Pediatric Dentistry, we offer a variety of services to care for your child's mouth. If you have any questions or would like more information about how we can care for your child's teeth and mouth, please contact us today. The health of your child's teeth and mouth is very important to the well-being of the entire body.
Your child's first visit in our office may include, (depending on his/her age) examination, cleaning, fluoride, and x-rays. You are welcome to come with your child for all procedures and if your child wants or needs to, they may sit on your lap. Please note - the following are words we never use in our office: shot, needle, stick, poke, yank, drill, or blood.
Radiographs are a vital and necessary part of your child's dental diagnostic process. Without them, certain dental conditions can and will be missed. X-Rays detect much more than cavities. For example, radiographs may be needed to survey erupting teeth, diagnose bone diseases, evaluate the results of an injury, or plan orthodontic treatment.
Our office is not just concerned about your child's dental health, we are concerned about their total health. Diets that are unhealthy for the teeth are also unhealthy for the body. Not only do we want to prevent cavities we want to prevent childhood obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. The mouth is the gateway to the body.
All dental specialists begin by completing dental school and continue their education with several years' additional, specialized training. During this training dentists gain extensive knowledge and experience in treating infants, children and adolescents. Pediatric Dentists enjoy working with children and bring to each patient their experience in childhood development and behavior.

Dentist Denise is a godsend. Her personal demeanor, training of staff and office atmosphere are exactly what a pediatric dentist office should be (sadly, so many are not). Our family feels very fortunate to have found her and have her by our sides through the pediatric dental years for our all of our children.

Dr. Bass Allen is such a blessing. She is so great with my toddlers and made them so comfortable in such a strange environment for young kids. They look forward to their visits each time. I would give 10 stars if I could!

Dr Denise Bass Allen is simply outstanding, as are all of her staff, and we have heard wonderful things about the other dentists at Uptown as well. We went to *several* pediatric dentists with our first daughter and were very disappointed with their approach. Dr. Denise is warm, patient and kind with kids and adults alike. She listens very carefully to parent concerns and moves slowly with little ones in a very deliberate and sophisticated way. When it came to our second daughter’s first appointment (11mos old) we felt *so happy* we already had such a wonderful pediatric dentist lined up. We

My 6 year old has been here twice. Once with Dr. Cheng and once with Dr. Denise. Both Dr's are great. My issue with the last visit was with the dental hygienist (Ruby). She did not speak to my son or myself, she pointed to the chair for my son to sit. I had to finally ask her what her name was and what she was doing. She hadn't said a word until then. She barely spoke to my son through the cleaning. She didn't ask if he was ok. She didn't have a problem speaking with the parent across the room, she was very friendly with her. I will never let her work on my son again.

My son is 6 years old and is anxious, cautious, and stubborn when it comes to dentists, mainly because of traumatic visits we had with a large dental practice in Alameda. From our first visit, I could tell that Dr. Denise is used to working with highly sensitive kids. She did not use force or intimidation, but talked to him every step of the way and showed him what to expect. Before she used her tools, she let him touch it with his hand, then tried it on his tooth, so he was not surprised. She did this many times until he calmed down. She and Stacey, her assistant, taught him to take deep breaths

So my kids needed some fillings and I ended up here after having initially gone to a very large pediatric dental practice in Alameda. Since my little one was a bit squeamish during the very brief exam, the dentist in Alameda immediately concluded that he would require general anesthesia and I was then ushered to one of their finance folks to discuss payment for the anesthesiologist - we had spent more time with the finance person than with the actual dentist. And the idea of using general anesthesia for some simple fillings didn't sit right with me. So I thought I'd get a second assessment

This is a long overdue review for Dr. Eric Smith, but he is an excellent dentist, very gentle and kind to children. He gave me some good tips for getting my 3 year old adjusted to flossing with the little kid flossers. I hope that he will be back in the office soon!

Dr. Denise is AMAZING ! I had the pleasure of bringing my 2 yr old baby boy to her yesterday morning and our visit wasn't anything short of fantastic . She's patient, comforting and she ensured that my baby was comfortable while staying aware that he was nervous . I believe we found our forever home for my kiddo and his teeth ! I'll recommend Dr. Bass 100x over !

My child went from being traumatized at a poorly ran practice to actually looking forward to dental appointments. This practice is simply the best. Our dentist, Dr. Smith, is absolutely wonderful. He has excellent bedside manner and was able to alleviate my son's fears and is a thorough, gentle dentist. The staff is amazing as well and every hygienist is kind, patient and very professional. Need a pediatric dentist? Come here!

You can stop here in your search for a dentist. We visited Dr. Denise today and I left grateful that she was recommended to us by a friend. She and her entire staff made us feel welcomed. My 2 and 4 year old were telling other kids how much fun the dentist is on our way out (both because everyone is wonderful and because the kids get toys). Dr. Denise is thorough, kind, communicative, and fun. The same can be said for everyone in the office.

Dr. Eric Smith and the staff were very patient with my 5 year old son. There are dentist in more convenient areas in regards to my location, but I specifically chose this office based on its reviews for their handling of children with special needs.
Initially, I was anxious being that my son screams bloody murder just getting his hair cut. However, every one in the office took great care to cover our needs. Each person in the office was attentive from the initial call in making the appointment to billing to the doctor himself.
My son really took to Dr. Smith and Keyon who played with him the

We went twice based on yelp reviews, but we won't be back. I'm sure it's a fine practice and the care from the dentist and technicians was fine, but I think they are too busy or way too overbooked. You expect to wait your turn at the dentist office, but it was at least 45 minutes to 1 hour after our appointment time until we finally got seen. The care was fine and they were nice, but then to also have to wait 15 minutes afterwards in order to deal with the insurance person it pushed it to 2+ hours all together. When it's only street/metered parking, it just makes the experience

I was late for the first time to my appointment and get charged for $75 dollars and was preached by the front desk lady (African American lady, they have a couple ladies working in the front) admin about time management. If you already determined to charge me regardless, don't rub it in any further.

So I said sure, charge the $75 for my tardiness and cancel the rest of my 3 kids appointments. I'll take all my 3 kids somewhere else. There it is to your business, but I'm sure you can afford to lose another 3 clients. As a client, I can always go somewhere else where I will be

Love her!

She was so attentive to my son. Her energy is perfect for children. Her staff was also friendly and professional. My son had fillings and they were done with care and exceptional technique. She called the next day to check on him and make sure he was doing great, and he was. I would recommend her to any one looking for a pediatric dentist.
