The Tropic Truck

This is one of our favorite food trucks. You can't go wrong with Caribbean fusion food here.
We got shrimp bowl and Angus steak quesadillas and a side order of plaintians for $35... which is not bad for LA standard... yah, everything is so expensive now!!! It's hard to remember the good old time when you can spend less than $10 from food truck!

Their food is very yummy and large portion though.
Shrimp bowel has half a dozen of good size shrimp, grilled, served with rice, beans, salsa, cabbage and 3 pieces of plaintains.
The angus beef burrito is also tasty and large.

Had the steak quesadilla, plantains and side of vegetables. I got terrible food poisoning.... Throwing up for an entire day. Called management to let them know and the response was "I ate the steak last night and I'm fine. It was probably something else you ate". I see someone else on here got food poisoning from this truck a while back. Point is I got sick as hell. It probably was not bad meat, I think they may not clean the grill well, and perhaps use old grease. I was skeptically first because I thought seafood and trucks didn't mix well. However, I was hungry so I had their Cali burrito. I was so skeptical I gave half away to share at first. Then came the first bite-- amazing! It was probably one of the best burritos I've ever had. It was rich in flavor and not too salty. The shrimp and steak was perfectly seasoned; the fries absorbed the flavors, and the freshness of the avocado put everything together held by a warm tortilla. Ordered a shrimp bowl which I'm sure it was probably $10+. I also got an angus steak sandwich for my family. Overall, I paid $28 dollars. I don't mind supporting small businesses. But it seems that they only provided 5 shrimp so I'm thinking they charged me $14 each an item. I'm sure most of the bowl I received was the beans and garnish. Not impressed. Way too over priced.

Sooo delicious! The sourdough bread is made to perfection. Fluffy, crunchy, buttery. The nest is super flavorful and cheese melt is a perfect match, I also has a creamy cheese sauce that's just a bomb of delicious flavors. Ate the first half before I could get a full photo!

I started this review so long ago that I don't even remember what I was going to write, but I marked it as 5-stars while eating it... so must have been delicious.

This truck was at my apt complex tonight from 5pm to 8pm. I had no chance to preorder due to just moving in. I rushed to the truck at 750pm. I attempted to order at the order window and the woman seemed so irritated that I had not preordered. She WALKED AWAY from the order window and said "one second. " I was patient and waited a while before I finally screamed hello into the order window. She finally returned and took my order. My order was over $40 for a lobster quesadilla and a surf and turf burrito (over $20).

I get it that we've been in a pandemic and seafood is not cheap

I am not one to give bad reviews, but $25 for a lobster roll, which was extremely bad and not even fresh lobster

They purposely don't put the prices on the truck or their website because its all over priced. we got one taco and it had a hair in it. not worth it.

We had the Tropic Truck come to our manufacturing facility last night!!  These are the things we loved:

How wonderful the two guys in the truck were!  They were on time, polite, efficient and patient

The wonderful smell that came from the truck while the guys were coming outside to place their orders

The food!!!  Amazing!  Some described it as "so many flavors in one meal!"

The food!! The quantity was perfect and matched the $15.00 a plate cost

The fries....yum!

I really liked the pulled pork bowl I got - lots of food, really well done, and service was friendly. They had an issue with the fryer when I was there, so I couldn't get the loaded fries they have, but someone else tried them later and they were amazing. Definitely something I'd recommend if you're in the area.
