Kathmandu Restaurant
Our restaurant is best known for its outstanding Nepalese Cuisine, excellent staff service with livery ambience. Kathmandu Restaurant prepares everything fresh using the best quality ingredients and the freshest vegetables. Each dish represents flavor, pleasure, affection and essence. At Kathmandu Restaurant we blend taste and emotion into a one of a kind delightful experience.

Our restaurant offers Lunch buffet, dinner, takeout for our valuable customers. My boyfriend and I have gotten food from these guys a couple times -once for take-out and once dining in for the buffet- and both experiences were phenomenal! The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, and the food is delicious.

Traveling for work, stopped here on a recommendation from a coworker. I was not disappointed. I ordered the Lamb Thalis platter. It was a great sample of what this restaurant can do. I will be back again next time I am in town.

I spent a week in Nepal with my wife a few years ago, and we really loved the food.. When I heard that this place was open, I knew we had stop in and try...I took my family here for dinner, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff is spot on, the food is amazing. If you love Nepalese food and Indian Food you will not be disappointed. It is every bit as authentic as you are going to find anywhere outside Southern Asia.. Try the Chicken Momos, and the Lamb... delicious!

I can't really find anything wrong with this place despite a second visit. Service was good and the entree's are top notch. My only warning is there is only 3 heat levels so if you are looking for mold go with a "1" rating. The "2" was reasonably hot.

I have been here many times. Dine In, buffet or to go. Food is always good. My only complaint is to go take out times. When I select a pick up time of 7:30pm and ordered ahead of time at 4pm, it should be ready when I arrive. But this has not been the case on numerous visits. Also, did not receive my naan bread with my curry to go order. Consistency with order quality varies it seems.

We have eaten here several times and enjoy it every time. It is a pleasant change from Midwest fare and features great Momos, to accompany chicken, lamb, or even goat in a delicious variety of dishes. If you feel mildly adventurous, you'll find this a great evening experience.

I was really excited to try this place because of all the amazing reviews. The food was good! I got the chicken tikka masala. It was good, but not as flavorful as other Indian restaurants in the area...and, I eat a lot of Indian. The naan was good, but after having it at The Spice Pot, nothing compares. The color of the Chicken Tikka Masala was more on the yellow side, which is unusual of all the other ones I have eaten and the flavor was off. It didn't taste bad, but it didn't taste like chicken tikka masala. My sister asked me to order her some and drop it off to her. When she plated

My wife and I were in Des Moines for the weekend and had a craving for Indian cuisine. This place does not disappoint and is up there with some of the better restaurants we have had Indian food. We would definitely come back.

EXCELLENT! Wide selection of Indian food. They have all the most popular dishes. Service was great, and they were very accommodating for a food allergy in our party. The chef even came out to ensure the meal he intended to prepare would work for the allergic person. It was very much appreciated! Get the garlic naan! 10/10 would recommend!

I was leery because a native Iowan recommended this place, but I spent far too long missing out on this delight! Flavorful, fantastic, and authentic cuisine that you wouldn't expect even in Des Moines! The prices are fair, the service is pretty good, and the food is glorious! My one and only complaint is that they brought my dessert out the same time as the main course. Other than that, it's absolutely perfect.

The spice level isn't accurate, they definitely bring the heat! Go for the mildest flavor unless you're a dragon. It isn't heat just for heat, there's flavor

We discovered Kathmandu when businesses started to reopen and so far, is our favorite Indian food place. Every single time we have visited, the food has been fresh, well cooked and of course, delicious.

Our favorite appetizer is the chicken 65 and for main plates, my husband usually gets the chicken makhni with our favorite garlic naan bread and so for me I've tried vandaloo, curries and tikka masala; all of them have been generously served and so comforting.

Every single time we have a chance to visit around the area, is a sure visit to Kathmandu. Staff has been always attentive and friendly

Great food and generous portions.
Highly recommend the veggie monos and the gobi Manchuiran.

The steamed veggie monos hd a nice gingery kick and a nice version of the spicy red traditiona dipping sauce.

Gobi (cauliflower) Manchurian was really fantastic. Crispy and tangy, these little fried saucy bites were a perfect balance of sweet, tangy and firey.

Our family honestly could have been full with just these two dishes but we also ordered malai kofta. Note: just because this is Iowa doesn't mean they won't take you at your word if you ask for hot on the spice scale. Great for us

What a gem of a place! The food is amazing and the service is exceptional Mal. We tasted several appetizers - steamed Momos, fried Momos, fish Fry and tofu Manchurian - all exceptional. The Garlic naan was the best I have ever eaten. The entrees were substantial enough for two people. Highly recommend this place !!

My partner and I got take out from Kathmandu in Windsor Heights recently. We liked it so much we went back the next week! I hadn't been to their location in Windsor Heights and I'm so glad we finally made it over there.

I got Vindaloo on my first visit and garlic chicken my second. My partner got chicken tikka masala both times. We also got a side of garlic naan. Our food was amazing!! If I went back again, I think I'd get the Tikka Masala because it was excellent. My food was also delicious both times but the tikka was the winner for me. Our meals came with rice and 4 pieces of

My first time here and loved it all! Really friendly service and plentiful menu options. Everyone else in the restaurant had dishes that I thought looked good enough to want too! I tried a dish a work friend from India suggested (palak paneer) and was blown away. The "hot" level is quite spicy but if you are into that sort of thing, this place hits the spot. Of course you could get less spicy.

This review is based on a take out order. I had the chicken tikka masala and the baingan bartha.

The chicken tikka masala was too watery. Not enough cream. And the flavor was a bit bland, especially a lack of tomato.

The bartha was too blended. It was missing nice chunks. And the flavor was also bland.

I saw another review that the food is better in person. That might be. But this was my first experience and I wasn't too impressed.

Been here several times and each time I try something different. Everything has been delicious and when you request spice, you get HEAT! My bf got a 5-star biryani and wasn't able to get through his whole dish and he likes a lot of spice. The momos are out of this world. They come with a sauce but you really don't need to add anything because every bite is delicious and the dough is soft but not so thin that it breaks open just by trying to pick it up. This is one of my go-to places helping me get through quarantine and now that their dining room is open, they are still doing online orders

With Covid-19 stopping all of us from dining in at restaurants, I was still craving something spicy. My solution? Order and pick up some momos here. For $10-$12, you can get 12 nicely sized, delicious momos. I went with the vegetable momos and didn't even miss the meat! The steamed momos came with this awesome chutney dipping sauce...it was flavorful, the right amount of spicy, and complemented the veggie filling perfectly.

If I ever find myself needing another momo fix, I know where to go now! I'd love to try the fried momos and the soup momos next time, as well as some of their other

Got delivery for a bday using Grub Hub.
First time getting food from the new location and it was hot and delicious just like the former spot! I feel like I ordered about half the menu so our group of four could all try several dishes! All were fantastic.
Perfect vegan options and dang that samosa was delicious. Can't wait to dine in at the new spot once the pandemic is over!

This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Restaurant in the Greater Des Moines, IA Area! YUMMMM-DIZZLE! My favorite dishes are the Malai Kofta and Nepalese Fish Fry!

I will say, I love their buffets as they also include chai tea and ice cream. Once they are able to re-open the buffet, I definitely plan to bring the fam-bam!

Everyone raves about Kathmandu so I thought it was about time I checked it out. Especially since they opened the Windsor Heights location and it's just 15 blocks or so from my apartment complex...

Here's the problem I have reviewing anything in this ballpark. I know what tastes good to me, but I know next to nothing about Indian, Nepalese, Pakistani, etc. cuisine. Outside of the basics research online can provide I'm lost in that little corner of the world... And I can't get my girlfriend or kids to eat it so not only am I kind of flying blind...I'm usually flying solo

This is a charming and very clean restaurant. We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant and I immediately smiled when I heard the music and smelled the wonderful aroma of Indian cuisine.

Our server was very friendly and prompt with service. We were here for lunch, which only serves the buffet. There were several choices including 2 types of rice, naan and samosas. The entree options had a good mix of meat and vegetarian. It appeared that ice cream came with it, but we didn't ask.

I would be interested in visiting again during dinner hours when I can select from the menu

Came in on a Saturday night around 7pm. There were people there but room for us to be seated immediately with no wait. (Any earlier and we probably would have had a wait). We were served ice water immediately while we looked over the menu. We ordered the Flying Horse beer (this is a large bottle) - a lager, but very light, and a Carlsberg Elephant - a Pilsner with a heavier, malty taste. We ordered appetizers - gobi Manchurian (Coated cauliflower in Indian spices) and pancheer manchurian (Indian cheese in Indian spices). The servings were very generous! We ordered them both medium heat. My family

Recently, Namaste India changed ownership and subsequently shuttered their doors, leaving a void in this part of town. I'm pleased to report that Kathmandu has filled in nicely.

I dig their buffet setup. Instead of a double sided steam table, the holding pans are built in and spread out--i think it makes for a tidier appearance. Additionally, careless patrons won't drip food into pans. The chutneys, fruits, etc. are in a separate unit that's covered.

Nice selection of options--tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, lemon rice, and aloo gobi were just some of
