Our school was founded in 2005 with the goal of creating an ethnically, culturally, and economically diverse community that is united through its commitment to parental involvement in education and to fostering respect for the environment. OCP creates a "home away from home" for its families.
In today's mobile and global society, many families with young children lack the extended family support systems that existed during the more agrarian and less mobile culture of the past century.Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool seeks to fulfill the supporting roles once fulfilled by extended family by providing a community where families not only come together to educate their children, but to build long-term bonds among families.

Services
OCP began in 2005 when a group of parents decided to create a play-based cooperative educational preschool that joined parental involvement with a green learning environment. In 2011, OCP moved to a new long-term location in Oakhurst. We financed the renovation of the building and the creation of its nature-based play garden.
While it's true our co-op runs on a whole lot of love and hard work, every dollar counts toward creating a nurturing environment that encourages children to become lifelong learners. When you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice.
One of the best methods of developing the Nido for our students comes from the support and guidance of our skilled teaching staff. A great way to learn about the school and community is to work as a substitute teacher through out the year. Working as a substitute in a classroom with a parent teacher or assistant teacher provides hands on classroom experience.
Our goal is to create a positive, secure environment that encourages children to become enthusiastic, lifelong learners and self-confident, caring adults.
We follow the open and flexible framework of the Creative Curriculum and integrate key elements of other well-known curricula, including Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, and Montessori, to create a play-based curriculum that focuses on the total development of the child, including cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills and language and communication.
