American Brake and Muffler Shop was started in 1975. Back then it was known as Alex's Standard and was a service center as well as a gas station. In 1985, we moved to our current location at 3102 W. Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408 and became American Brake and Muffler Shop. Now we've expanded and have added our newest location, American Complete Auto Repair, located at 9275 Taft St, Merrillville, IN 46410.
We are a family-owned business and are on our third generation of hardworking, honest, and fair operators servicing Crown Point and Merrillville, IN. We can handle any repair, big or small. We employ ASE certified technicians, and have over 100 years combined experience! We are open Monday through Saturday and offer free towing as well.

This place are completely scammers and about getting people for there money! Go elsewhere!!!! They told me the could reset my hybrid battery from crash mode charged me 50$ diagnostic when I knew the problem they said that would go towards cost labor called back and said they couldn’t fix it after I paid them to tow and diagnose fee they offered no money off my next tow to get to dealership and they assured me before towed they could fix it! I’d never go there again and I’ll advise anyone take your business somewhere else!

My second time going with my BMW car 328I. Very nice people and good service for foreign cars. Great prices beat the dealship price. Quick service. Will give you a ride to work close distance and pick you up if needed. Will be back for more service. This is the place to go after your warranty iss off of your car for maintenance. 10 *

Quick and knowledgeable service! Just moved to the area and noticed my car was making a funny noise. Popped over on a Wednesday afternoon and was in and out in under two hours for brake repair. Friendly workers and fair pricing. Have already recommended them to family and will continue to use them again in the future. Waiting rooms were comfortable too! Very happy customer here.
