Since 1998, when her career began, Kat Kern has been living by her motto: "Hair is everything!" With a passion for hair styling and love of making each person she encounters feel fresh and renewed, she believes hair is the frame to your beautiful face and should enhance your best qualities! Kat's career began in San Francisco's Union Square neighborhood in 1998 using Vidal Sassoon cutting and Wella International color techniques.

I don't think I knew what a good haircut was before I went to Kat for the first time. 14 years later and I'm still convinced there's no one better in the biz! She gave me the cutest bob that I wore for years; I ended up sending several ladies her way because they wanted the same cut! Her balayage technique is spot-on, too. These days I just plop down in her chair and let her work her magic. I always leave with a boost of confidence and a big smile on my face. Go see her - you won't be disappointed!

At the recommendation of a friend, I got a haircut at J. Roland for the first time. Thanks to Shiela at J. Roland for connecting me with Kat.
Kat was very friendly, relaxed and great to work with. I was asking for a big shift in style with the cut, and felt confident from the beginning with the questions Kat asked me, and her opinions on what I was after.
I rarely like a haircut from day one, but I instantly liked this one. I really felt like I was in the hands of an artist, and I look forward to working with Kat in the future.

Katherine is a great stylist. True confession: she's done my wife's hair (a blonde of various shades) for years and she wouldn't go anywhere else. I, on the other hand, had my own stylist and steadfastly refused to change until my travel schedule became so insane that syncing with my regular started proving impossible. So I went to see her. Kat is definitely one of the top stylists in the Bay Area! She recently moved to JRoland Salon, which is beautiful and everyone is so friendly, where she did my cut and color. The cut she did on dry hair and nailed it and was so quick, taking off just the right amount that I had asked for and reshaping to make it so easy to style. My blonde color she did is beautiful and I've already received may compliments. She made me bright blonde around the face with a more natural look and low lights. Listening to my every need she is truly top notch and so knowledgeable. I would recommend her

Leaving Kamala Spa I ALWAYS get compliments from everyone regarding my FASHIONISTA hair style...this woman is a stylist and i recommend to give her artistic license....no regrets...
Kat is an Artiste/Stylist...after a cut with her I just want to walk around town and enjoy all the compliments and admiration looks....
She is a rare jewel,....takes her craft serioulsy..
Highly recommend....really cares about her clients...never rushes....

I wish I could give Kat 6 stars. What an awesome stylist! She cuts and colors in this richly decorated salon/spa and her prices are reasonable for a top-of-the-line stylist ($190 for partial highlights and a cut, she spent 2 hours with me). She also is not super booked-up so you can actually make a Saturday appointment! Personally, she's lovely and a great listener. Professionally, she dry cuts for the perfect shape cut.
