Dr. Keith Youngblood, DVM is a graduate of Mississippi University college of veterinary medicine. Upon graduation he completed a Rotating Internship at Weatherford Equine Medical Center. There he studied Internal Medicine under Dr. Rob Franklin, Surgery and Lameness under Dr. Jeff Foland, and Reproduction under Dr. Justin Rhitthaler.
It's important to be aware of some of the common problems that affect our horses. It's also important to consult with us or your local equine veterinarian because there are a variety of different diseases and parasites that can affect horses in our region of the country. Some of the most common equine medical problems include both internal and external parasites, hoof issues like laminitis, colic, and others.
The idea of your horse being infested with parasites is a disturbing thought, but it's also a medical issue that can have serious consequences if not properly dealt with or prevented. Parasites pose a variety of health issues for our horses, who can be very susceptible to certain parasites depending on age, region, and other factors.
A horse's mobility is vital to their everyday life and happiness, so lameness can be a major issue. Lameness is any abnormality in the gait or stance, usually caused by pain, illness, or injury of some sort. There are a variety of causes, so a thorough examination may be necessary to determine the issue.

Dr Youngblood is one of the kindest and caring vets I have come across.. He wasn't our vet until now. Had a foal born Friday and I contacted him with some concerns. He was in surgery and he texted me and phoneed me throughout the day checking progress. I had never met the man and he was so attentive and I appreciate your encouragement and wisdom!
