Brahman Yoga Harlem
Yoga is a practice of expansion. As a tool designed to transcend suffering, yoga offers us teachings to expand the body, mind, and heart; ultimately connecting us to an experience beyond the material. We created our studio to set a connection with the rapidly expanding universe. We will always find struggles in this material world because we are not meant to be perfect nor have all the right answers.

Yoga can help us manage the stress of our existence by teaching mindful movements, controlled breathing, and deep meditation. Our studio is open to anyone who is interested in learning these lessons. We offer classes in a vinyasa krama practice, also referred to as a vinyasa flow. Our teachers come from eclectic backgrounds and offer insights from many different lineages and schools.
Services
We practice vinyasa yoga. This is a style of yoga that moves from pose to pose in a "flow" sequence and integrates conscious breathing with each movement. Wear clothes that allow you to move comfortably. Please bring your own mat and props to class as our mat rental option is not currently available.
As we process and integrate the energies of the recent solar eclipse, now is a powerful time to clear the path for growing what wishes to be birthed and come through whether at an individual level or how we choose to contribute to the collective necessary evolutionary process. The joyful quality of the summer season helps us to dream and create through intentional practices.

I went to the beginners class and for the first time actually *enjoyed* yoga.

The space is beautiful, sunny and relaxing. I booked a 1pm with instructor Irina. She was wonderful. I'm a novice and there were a couple poses I didn't know and she subtly explained it to the whole class. I felt super welcomed and comfortable.
The location isn't hard to get to either!
Would come back.

I had paid upfront for in-person classes. The studio had lost a few instructors and the last few classes had been quite bad (teachers on the phone during class, 12 minutes of shavasana, classes starting late because of staff now showing up) so I took a break. I reached out to check on the balance of +$100 I had on the books.. Was told it was fine. Reached out recently to request a refund (employment issues) and was told my money had expired. Never once was I contacted about my balance, I did not sign anything, nor was I given literature that said my $ would expire. It does not seem an unfair expectation

Bright, clean, affordable yoga studio close to my home. The yoga teachers can be a hit or miss - as with any fitness class, there are others better or worse than the other. Not all of them will do adjustments, and others are very fast that it’s sometimes hard to keep up. I’m not a beginner but yoga practice shouldn’t feel rushed. I like going to the early evening ones, especially during the summer when it’s a little bit cool and they light candles all over the studio. It gives it such a relaxing vibe.

I am absolutely in love with this studio. I just moved to Harlem after living in Brooklyn for 10 years and I feel like I've found my local yoga home. I usually practice downtown at Jivamukti or the Shala, so I'm used to strong Ashtanga-based flows. Brahman gives me just what I need uptown. I still can't believe that such an awesome studio is a 5-minute walk from my apartment! This certainly beats the 30+ minute commute it used to take me to get to an awesome studio from my apartment in Brooklyn (and for half the price). This place is seriously amazing.

The best studio in Harlem. A lovely place filled with natural light; great teachers from different styles of yoga. Clean, friendly and very accesible prices. The only thing missing in the classes is to include guided pranayama and meditation practice.

The fastest-paced yoga I have ever done. The space is open and lovely, but as a warning, no air conditioning, so it's rather warm in the summer. Our teacher was an incredibly talented yoga practitioner, but quite a bit of the class was rapidly switching poses and you are left to figure it out more or less on your own. Also, someone put on my shoes and left with them, so I had to go home in shoes a size too small that did not belong to me, which soured my experience.

Clean, affordable studio...most instructors are knowledgeable and pleasant; however, I must agree with the previous review regarding the inappropriate music in the background. It only happened to me once and it was a struggle to focus on maintaining postures while listening to loud pop/r&b or whatever it was...she should teach an aerobics class instead.

I am so fortunate to have this studio right around the corner from where I live. Not only is it a beautiful place for your practice, its bright and spacious with complimentary blocks, straps, towels and blankets. The donation classes are also a big plus for me!
