Yoga Space
Located in a beautiful old chapel in Portland, Oregon, this is a sanctuary for all levels to practice the true essence of yoga amongst a loving diverse community guided by highly trained teachers. The Yoga Space offers classes suitable for your level in Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Hatha, Restorative, and Yin Yoga.

Our lineage is primarily Krishnamacharya. Our teachers are highly trained in alignment to assist you in deepening your practice safely. We offer 200 hr & 500 hr. Yoga Aliance Certified Teacher Trainings annually. Along with our 4-6 month weekend format, we are now also offereing an 18 month elective format (300+) 500 hr training & online studies program.
Services
Studio: These classes will be in-person and held at The Yoga Space. Please pre-register if you plan to attend in-person as we have limited space to accommodate distancing between students. Livestream: These classes are offered through Zoom, and can be joined conveniently from anywhere. Livestream / In-Person ("Hybrid"): These classes provide the option to attend in-person or to join through Zoom.
Wear comfortable and clean clothing. Bathe before class if possible. We ask you to be mindful of other students by not wearing perfume or other fragrance. Traditionally yoga is practiced on an empty stomach, 1-2 hours after a light snack and 3-4 hours after a heavy meal. Drink plenty of water before hand, as it is usually not drunk or at least limited during practice.
This foundational training is ideal for serious students of yoga wishing to profoundly deepen their practice and aspiring teachers alike. Being offered along with the Teacher Training is a companion course, Buddhism for Yogis: The Three Vehicles with Tenzin Robert Thurman.

Our program is rooted in the lineage of Krishnamacharya, blending the Vinyasa flow, internal form, and intelligent progression found in the Ashtanga system, the precise alignment instructions and supported poses of the Iyengar system, and the modifications to the individual that Desikachar emphasized. The Theory & Practice of Yoga (intensive asana, philosophy, pranayama and meditation study).
We are receiving applications, and encourage you to apply soon, as we expect to fill our in-person course which is limited to 11 people due to social distancing guidelines in place for the pandemic. Spots will be opened up as things change if possible. We will also have an oline option for those unable to attend in person.
This Fall's training will focus on practices to enter our original primordial luminous mind & bliss-emptiness indivisible. The training will provide teachers of yoga and meditation, as well as students and seekers on the path to freedon, enough information to develop a home-practice of Yoga Nidra and to begin sharing Nidras with others intelligently.

Beautiful location and I really loved the class. However, I was visiting from out of town so I needed to borrow a mat etc. I was clearly confused as to where to find the materials and had to ask another participant for help rather than the instructor coming to help. I also took longer than the others to file out, making sure to clean my mat well. It was just the instructor and I in the room. I said “Great class” to which she just smiled. It would have been nice if she had chatted a bit but that’s just me. She was friendly just not very open. Other than that no complaints.

Thoughtful & personalized teaching of an already well thought out method of Yoga; Iyengar Yoga. All their teachers are certified in Iyengar Yoga, which is not trivial. You are not necessarily going to sweat in this style of Yoga but, you will strike that balance between effort and relaxation that puts the mind and body at ease. Beautifully run and equipped studio. Come on time. Iyengar studios are uniformly parochial that way.

No phone. The owner signs as "Owner" in review responses. More deadly exclusive club attitude. Why bother? No one ever enlightened because of $100 yoga pants.

Fantastic teachers who know how to support your practice at any stage. I resumed my practice after a break of several years, and all the teachers have done an amazing job of encouraging me, guiding proper alignment, and helping me grow without pressuring me to go beyond my current abilities. It's been especially great to find Mysore style classes near my home. A warm, welcoming, and supportive studio.

Dear Portland,

How I love you so. Your delicious grub, your socked in, moody weather, your accessibility (helloooo easiest transit system EVER!) and this place? The Yoga Space?!! Yes, please. A thousand times! I am in love. Wish I had found this gem earlier during my visit. I want to scoop you up in a giant hug and bring you home to Tahoe.

Took a yin class because the timing worked with my schedule. Walked in super frazzled because I was afraid I was going to be late (which is always awkward in a new space). The staff greeted me with ease and cheerily pointed me in the right direction. The space

I took the Happy Hour class with MB and it was enlightening to say the least! The studio is like a stain glass temple. The room was lit by candles and the teach burnt incense during the session. It was the perfect environment for peace of mind and re-balance. Would definitely recommended.

Really disappointed in my experience with this studio. I bought a 10 class card to use at their conveniently located studio in SE. They ended up closing that one and refused to give me my money back for the classes I had remaining. Instead they said I had to drive all the way to their studio in NW. That's a long and stressful drive for 7 or 8 classes that I certainly never planned on making when I bought my class card. This place really lacks integrity.

The space was clean and beautiful! Take the owners class for great hands adjustments. Also her guided meditation is calming and allows you to drop in to your body and let go of the mind. I am also a yoga teacher and its hard to find a yoga class worthwhile to go to so if your from out of town go to the owners class!

This one is entirely for the MICHELE LOEW. She's an amazing teacher and yogini and the best part of the entire yoga experience with her is that she's a compassionate human being completely in line with the true spirit of Yoga. I have taken very few classes with her but enjoyed whenever I could visit one of her lovely studios in NW or SE, both of them filled with her positive energy. My husband took a teacher's training program with her and I dropped in a few workshops with him although this was a bit further off from where we lived, thus was not my regular studio.

I always felt

I always love returning to the peaceful sanctuary vibe of this yoga studio. There are a couple of teachers there that you can't find anywhere else and so I keep coming back to treat myself to their presence and the sweet space of the studio that always restores my spirit. Namaste!

Beautiful yoga space that is peaceful and warm in historical church. Location is tucked away in a neighborhood and very intimate yet conveniently close to 23rd St. for shopping and food. I was visiting Portland for the holidays and wanted to continue my practice so The Yoga Space was a perfect fit for my schedule, budget, and locale. Sarasvasti Hewitt was knowledgeable, friendly, and provided a great vinyasa series.

This yoga studio is perfect for beginners and people who want to do restorative yoga. The studio space is calming, the teachers are attentive and check in on the alignment. The Sunday restorative yoga from 3:30 to 5 is a fantastic way to unwind and get ready for the week.

I was so excited to have found a potential place for yoga classes, after reading all the wonderful glowing reviews. I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop by just before 6:00 this evening to get some information.

After entering the shared hallway, I tried to open the door to the yoga space. I did not knock, tug or make any noise. A blond man opened the door and stared at me. I said, "oh, are you open?" He coldly said, "NO!" I said okay and said I just wanted to get a little info or a pamphlet." He snarled, "I'm teaching a class right now!,"

Not only is the space beautiful and calming, but the teachers are fantastic. One of my favorite places for yoga. I actually hesitate to write a review as I don't want the word to get out.

My husband and I travel a lot and we are always trying to find an all level yoga studio. The Yoga Space was perfect!

We took a class from Emily Light. AMAZING! She offered a spiritually grounded practice that I call "sneaking yoga" because it isn't a fast flow but a slow and steading practice that challenges you on multiple levels and will surprise you the next day on how sore you are.

Emily was very considerate in regards to asking if she could adjust us during the class and if the essential oils she used at the end of class were ok. For me, bring it on! But she was willing
