Great community, the staff is amazing. Quick responses, they treat you like family. The property manager was professional very knowledgeable when it came to any issues. I would recommend penrose to Obama if the brother was looking for a place to stay!

Don't waste your time- the staff is rude and incompetent. The building is poorly insulated and you can hear neighbors at all times. The fire alarm goes off on a week around 3 am and people smoke cigarettes in the building so it always smells. If I could leave zero stars I would, Sharon at the front desk spoke down to me and was completely disrespectful. I'll be moving out ASAP.

I've been living in Penrose Square Apartments for the better part of a year and my complaints are few and petty. Other than poor painting and mismatched blinds, I have no serious complaints at all. I moved in during the pandemic when the gym and other amenities were closed (would've been nice to not have to pay an amenity fee when no amenities were available) but once they opened, I was happy with what was available.
Living here is all about convenience and that's what is most valuable about living here. Having a shuttle to the Metro, having a grocery store below you, and having bars/restaurants

Newer property but the leasing/management team are a nightmare. Atrocious customer service with absolutely no consideration or an iota of thoughtfulness/proactiveness. Many better options in the area for the price point.

I lived here for 2+ years and this place is horrible. The management is the worst I have ever seen. For the first time ever, we got locked out of our apartment after hours. A resident let us up the elevator and once my wife and I were standing outside of our apartment we called the emergency number to let us in. They told us it would be $25 which is outrageous, especially because we pay approximately $2000 a month To just come open our door, this is ridiculous. We had to use our window that thank god even when locked it still opens (courtesy of Penrose Square Apartments). I would not recommend

I waited a few months to review the building, to better soak it in. COVID19 pandemic unfortunately has prevented me from using many of the amenities and features of the building. Overall it is a fairly good property, very secure and maintained well. My only issue is the noise. You can hear EVERYTHING.. EVERYTHING. I hear word for word my neighbors TV through the walls, which seems to be worse in the bedroom. Neighbors two floors up blast their TV loudly with the door open, and it bounces acoustically around in my corner. Due to the transient nature - meaning large portion military - people come

I've been a resident for 5 years and can confidently say, one side is better than the other. The West wing above the office is a peaceful place but the main elevator is always busy. The East wing has random fire alarms at 2 am because the system is tied into that of the Giant grocery store below. This causes the alarm to sound if someone smokes in the parking garage below or sneezes. Lastly, the park with the fountains used to be family friendly, but since the geniuses put ash trays everywhere; the smokers took it as an invitation to completely take over. Now you have the pleasure of smelling weed

**The Truth About Penrose Apartments - You Will be Extorted**

To keep it brief, issues while we lived there:
- Extremely loud false fire alarms in the middle of the night.
- Constant spiders and insects would find there way into the apartment.
- Found a fully grown cockroach in the apartment and could hear others at night - mind you we keep our apartment very clean.
- Staff was friendly but almost never had a helpful answer.

Upon moving out:
- Was told a walk thru would not be necessary to review the apartment and was not offered an appointment.
- We left the apartment spotless with no repairs

Getting ready to permanently move out of the area and generally do not write reviews but we have enjoyed ourselves and been treated fairly so here goes. First, my wife and I have lived at Penrose Square Apartments for 2.5 years. Our unit was an inside corner unit with a nice balcony. We really enjoyed the balcony catching the morning sun and comfortable in the afternoons during the warmer months. Once in a great while you here some noise but overall quiet. With Covid19 and additional people here during the day negligible increase but overall quiet.
Prior to moving here in 2018, I did read about

Unfortunately, I will have to give my first Yelp review with some negative feedback. I will mirror Rich E's comments regarding poor management and a lack of sympathy for loyal residents in this building. I've lived here for over two years and have been storing an old motorcycle in the garage for at least one year. Before I moved the motorcycle to the Penrose garage, I spoke with Penrose employees who confirmed I could store it here as long as I registered the motorcycle in their Entrata system, which I did. Fast forward a year later and I come back from a long trip with a Virginia DMV

Penrose Square Apartments are very nice but the problem is the fire alarms going off around 230 in the morning all the time! Reading back through the reviews, it looks like this has been an issue since 2015. For the amount of money you pay to live here, you would think they would get it fixed. But seeing as how it's been an over 4 year issue, I don't see any hope. I will not be renewing my lease.

I don't mind the location, the maintenance staff or the front desk (as well as the leasing staff). My biggest issue is the fact that we pay per month for trash collection, which I know is a first world problem. I put out the trash during the specified times and it does not get picked up. Again, I am more than able to throw out my own trash, but if I am paying for someone to pick it up I expect it to be picked up. This has happened multiple times and is rather disgusting (and unsanitary). My neighbors leave it out for over 48 hours. Also, as many people have said, the fire alarm does

**Do not live here.**

Fire alarm still not resolved and goes off all the time. Because I have my nephew with me a lot of the time, I evacuate just to make sure. Most of the building doesn't because it's usually a false alarm. God forbid there is a real fire. That would be tragic!

If you look at the property, I would ask them what are they doing to fix the fire alarm issue. See what BS answer they will give you, since this has been happening for years. Also, the walls are waaayyyy too thin.

I will not be renewing my lease this fall. I pay too much for this to be an ongoing issue.

Absolutely heartless and dishonest management company. My wife and infant were exiting the garage in our vehicle that we purchased just a few months ago. The gate crashed down on our vehicle's hood, severely denting it. Management came out to inspect and owned up to the accident. There is video proof as well as pictures. Fast forward to over 1 month later, and they are denying any responsibility. They are telling us to just go through our insurance. We should not have to pay our deductible to fix our car that their garage dented. We tried going through corporate (hah) to no avail. We have

5/5 Stars

-Concierge, Leasing, and Maintenance Staff are all very friendly, helpful and devoted to customer service.
-Management promptly sends emails to residents alerting of any special events, building maintenance issues and schedules, power outages, and causes of occasional fire alarms.
-Management promptly send emails when new packages arrive, so that you can retrieve them safely at the front desk.

Updated - DO NOT move. Management is disastrous! True to a corporation bully they have now threatened with pre-collection notice and late payment charges. This is for services the management had promised to deliver to me as a resident for free but which did not happen during my stay (details below) and they did it after i left. I paid $1,850(-/+ in 7 years) for monthly rent for almost a 600 sq ft 1 BD apartment and $32 monthly (something) for valet trash for years - so it is not about me being able to pay the service charge. It is about professionalism, work ethics, honor and morality - which B

Do not move here if you value your sleep or privacy. I have been living here for a few months now, and it saddens me that I have to write this review about this complex. The management and the staff are really pleasant to work with, but the issues facing this building are systemic, and I don't think that they can be solved or fixed.

Let us talk about noise transfer, and the thin walls.
The walls in this complex are paper thin. I can hear my neighbors having casual conversations from their own apartment. My neighbors are not particularly loud or anything, the walls are just super thin. I can

I lived here for exactly one month a couple years ago - at the time of my moving in, there was a one-month no questions asked "you can get out of your lease" option. (Actually, maybe that should have been my first clue, but I digress...) Reading the reviews today, I'm glad I took the move-out option. During my month, we had four fire drills.

I'd read about the broken system before moving in, but the staff assured me that it had since been taken care of. This was - unfortunately - a lie that cost me the stress and expense of a second move. It should be obvious by now to anyone

I would give them 5 stars but the random fire alarms going off at 1 or 3 in the morning just can't happen. This is a Luxury building with great amenities, the staff is super friendly and are there to take care of your every need. I had a leaky toilet and they fixed it that same day, great service. There is not a close metro station but the shuttle makes up for that, the monthly renters community events are great and the club house is great for throwing parties. Over all great place to live with great amenities.

Yet again the piercing, mind-numbingly loud fire alarm has gone off - this time twice in one day. My daughter asks me every night before going to bed if the fire alarm is going to go off tonight - she is terrified of it on a daily basis.

They don't seem to be able to fix this and I warn all potential residents to stay away - this place is not worth the lost sleep, waiting in the cold and - if you have kids or pets - the anxiety it causes in them.

Live here if you like sleep deprivation.

This is my second revenue of this place since I moved in August 2016, because future renters deserve to know that the fire alarms are still defective and go off early in the morning. People might burn alive in this building because everyone is so use to the alarm sounding between midnight and 5 a.m. due to system defects. We've yet to have an actual fire in the complex.

I will not be renewing my lease.

Lived here for a year- only reason I moved was due to plans of purchasing property instead of renting.
First of all- AWESOME staff at Penrose! Natasha, Shay, and everyone else in the leasing office are among the most friendly people you'll ever meet.

The location is obviously ideal; living above a grocery store is amazing, and throw in the starbucks, three restaurants, and a dry cleaners and you've got 5 star living.
Some earlier reviews mention fire alarm issues. These were resolved shortly after I moved into the community in October, 2015. It has become a non-issue.
