Every year I take several clients on a fishing trip on the St Joseph River. One of the highlights of every trip is sharing dinner and drinks at The friendly tavern. The atmosphere is wonderful the service is exceptional and the food is delicious.

Local diner / tavern with decent menu selections of burgers, sandwiches, chicken, fish, a few entree dinners, a full bar with a decent (too many IPA's) beer selection. Place was pretty empty when I went which I understand this is not the normal for this place. The prices are a tad higher than most establishments in the area for comparable dishes.
Parking in nonexistent while the interior is very dated (has the old west tavern feel), mostly booths and some tables, music that isn't overwhelming and allows conversation, as well as daily specials demands a return visit.

I'm a local been coming here for 15 years. At it's peak under Ray's management this place was a solid 5. I dropped it to a 4 because the food is hit or miss. Atmosphere is great and so is service. This is still my go to bar. They make great burgers. If you enjoy a Cheers like bar this is your place.

Had the burger and fries fries were phenomenal service was friendly lol hamburger was average considering the 1295 they charged me for it overall nice environment would come back. Maybe if they're going to raise the prices a couple bucks they should at least make the patty a little bigger bun overcrowded burger.

Clean. I've cold beer. Daily specials. The fried food tastes like it is cooked in fresh oil. We went 3 times during the week. Once with 2 people, once with 4 and once with 10. Got the same great service all three times. No one had any complaints about anything there. Twice we got the tempura onion rings. One time they were not well drained BUT, they were still great.

Food took for ever. The girl said our food would be ready in a couple minutes then 30 minutes go by and we still haven't got our food. Waitress looked at our table about 3 times and didn't give us refills until the 4 time. Appetizers were cold and the food was cold too not happy. The fried pickles were good though

Everything was fantastic from the food to the service. Social distancing was in place with seating at every other booth. The food was just as expected and the bartender/server girl was the only one working and was busy, but excellent service and a fantastic attitude. So friendly you would never notice how busy she was. Brought everything out perfectly and checked back on us a few times. Didn’t get her name, but she was blonde with tattoos. Would definitely go back just for the awesome service we received.

Although it looks like a dingy bar from the outside, The Friendly Tavern is actually a very open, bright and inviting place once inside. The food was all very good. Like a high quality diner. The southern Rueben was great, Italian beef and fries did not disappoint. Coffee was decent but on weak side. All and all I'd recommend it for a quick stop although nothing is earth-shatteringly unique about it.

Yelp helped us locate yet another awesome local place with great prices. We chowed down on the monstrously Awesome Tator tot mountain. They call it an appetizer but it a meal for 2 or 3 people really.
Meatloaf sandwich for my wife. She loved it. Clam chowder soup with Baked zita and garlic bread on the side for my daughter.
We only wished we could devour all of it. Guess we are coming home with leftovers in the cooler once again.
