Chef Carl McConnell and his wife, Nancy, searched for many years to find the perfect location to open their intimate fine dining restaurant. Nestled in the heart of historic Cottleville, Missouri, Stone Soup Cottage took root in 2009, and Carl and Nancy opened a door into a culinary world that very few diners are able to explore.
The prix fixe menu changes every month and offers an opportunity to embrace classically prepared European fare, focusing on the regions of southern France and northern Italy. Coined the hardest reservation to secure in the area, Stone Soup Cottage brings seasonal elegance, hospitality and fine, French inspired cuisine to guests night after night.

I know that I am posting this review three years late, but in 2018, for my grandmother's birthday, the experience was amazing. That was my very first time trying a tasting menu. I tried quail for the very first time then, it was surreal. Their bread was amazing, their quality is just spot-on. It looked really lush, like in the countryside. I am a city person, but that was very elegant and peaceful. Surprise your grandmother with a reservation there for her next birthday, do it months in advance.

If you haven’t tried the Cottage to carriage from this restaurant, do so NOW. We ordered it for our 50th anniversary and it was amazing. The printed directions for heating the food were so easy to follow. Our dinner arrived and we had it plated and sat down in 15-20 min. It was so delicious. We won’t wait for a special occasion to do this again. Thank you for the high quality meal.

We were very pleased to find this restaurant in the St. Louis area. The chef cares about the ingredients and has good techniques to create the dishes. I enjoyed every dish we had, however the veal tortellini was too salty and the creme brûlée was a bit runny.
We will visit the restaurant again during the spring time so we can have a chance to see his garden/farm.

My experience with Stone Soup Cottage can be best described as: perfectly adequate. The food was moderately tasty and the wine pairings were suitable. Tables were generously spaced allowing each party to enjoy their meal in privacy. Service was prompt and professional. Overall, I felt the substantial cost was not on par with the experience and am lowering my rating by one star.

The restaurant is charming and intimate, located on a scenic little farm overlooking a creek. Tables are spaced appropriately to allow private conversation with your dinner companions, but without feeling isolated. Each course was beautifully plated and served personally by Chef Carl. Every bite was perfect and memorable.
