I stopped in about 2 years ago to get some information on classes for my kids. I talked to Grand Master Doug Jones himself, but didn't know it at the time as he was telling me stories of his hobbies, kids, and community. I joined and bringing the kids as much as possible, great school for all levels!

DJ is the best! His kickboxing class kicked my *ss - in the best way. His enthusiastic encouragement kept me going even when I just wanted to fall into the mat. He gives great, safe, personal instruction. Plus his music is fantastic AND the others in class were SO supportive. It's like a family. Highly recommend!

I have trained at many gyms that are amazing and have a friendly environment but none compare to DJ's. GM DJ's enthusiasm and support is contagious; he will adjust movements for you and encourage you to be better today than yesterday. Most of the patrons are regulars and will make you feel like part of the team. I've never had the same workout twice but I always leave feeling like I've had a great workout. Even though I live over 30 minutes away (and there are plenty of gyms close to me), I'll still make the drive to DJ's because the class and people are beyond worth

DJ's Bodyblast class is the best! I have been going for years not because I love working out but because I love the results, I love the way I feel after class and I love my DJ's Martial Arts and Fitness Family. I switch between attending the early morning and the evening class and they are both great. Doug makes the class challenging and new each time and even though we are working hard he can still make us laugh. My classmates are like family. Everyone is so supportive. We cheer each other on, pick each other up when we are struggling and celebrate each others' accomplishments

Though it had been a few months since I'd worked out, I didn't realize to what extent that hiatus affected me until I took a cross-fit class with DJ. Let's just say that a couple of times I just plain wiped out! It was awesome (not so much in the moment when I had to break and lie down.)! The combination of exercises coupled with the pace was a healthy level of intense. The energy, sense of community, and family feel of the people and the environment, makes it easy to return. It isn't your typical gym. It's a space of boxing, kickboxing, fitness, hard work, results, and

Grandmaster Doug Jones is simultaneously a teacher, father, mentor, brother, friend, role model and so much more. It has taken me 20 years to find at DJ's martial arts and fitness unlimited, what I once had and so will never forget the flavor of: A world class martial arts school. Grandmaster seamlessly weaves so many roles with such a rich tapestry of life experience that all are able to benefit from the gifts he so gratuitously bestows. I can honestly say that DJ's is a school where the instructor is able to give to each according to their need and desire. "If you put the work

I've been coming to DJ's Martial Arts ever since I was 9 years old. I am now turning 21 and I am a second degree black belt. DJ's welcomed me into their place with open arms and once you start, you don't just enter a karate studio, but you also enter a family. The owner, Doug Jones, has been in my life from the start and has been like a second father to me. There's no other place I would rather be than here. I plan to continue my training and growth here as a martial artist. If you're looking for martial arts, this is the place to train!

I love DJ's bodyblast classes. When I first started, I could not get halfway through the class. I hated working out before and was pretty out of shape. DJ met me halfway and adjusted the workouts for me according to my fitness level. I never felt bad about not being able to do something. He is very encouraging and is a great instructor. Even though the first class left me feeling so tired I could barely walk home, I was excited to get back to it. I have no excuse to miss since there are many classes throughout the week during morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Everyone there is

About 14 years ago, I took my first kickboxing class from Doug Jones at a gym in Emeryville. When the gym closed, he moved his class to his martial arts studio in Oakland. I immediately took to kickboxing, and then found myself intrigued by martial arts. It blended very well with my love of dance and fitness. Professor Doug is an amazing instructor whether you take martial arts or physical conditioning. The studio is very family oriented There are youth and adult martial arts classes, fitness classes and personal training. That first class 14 years ago was a life changing experience. From battling

I love Doug--his energy and compassion for martial arts, fitness, and people permeate his dojo and his work. He has built quite a wonderful community.
I took his cardio kickboxing classes, back when I first started working out, and even though I found aerobics quite a miserable thing, I still had fun in his class. He is a remarkable teacher. I mean seriously! I was STRUGGLING in his cardio kickboxing because I was so out of shape, but he still managed to make it fun!
The thing I really want to advocate is his work as a personal trainer (I signed up with him when I realized I needed extra

I have been training with Sifu Doug Jones, and Sihing Damond Troupe since 2003, and it has changed my life in many profound ways.
Sifu is a caring, and positive teacher that expects your very best, and will help you to achieve it, mentally and physically.
The dojo has a great atmosphere, very different people all working together as a family. There are many different classes and workout schedules, as has been mentioned, and there is always someone hanging out, watching class, or working out independently.

Folks at DJ's Martial Arts and Fitness Unlimited are warm and strong; genuine and perceptive. As the martial artist who first sent me there said: they're real fighters. This community is how I would always like to see Oakland; wide range of age, race and gender always displaying love and respect for each other. Focused and moving forward.
One-room school house. Last night I stepped over young brothers wrestling on the ground who were finished with their homework (better have been) and were waiting for their mom to finish cardio kick boxing. Other people on the sides stretching, training

I take the cardio-kickboxing class and can truly say it is a kickass workout at a fabulous deal. Sifu Doug Jones runs you through arm and booty-sculpting drills, fantastic ab-work (he sneaks Pilates in there!), then tops off with circuit training - bag work mixed with strengthening exercises. Believe me, there is no cure for a tough day at work like beating the crap out of a bag. (Or, at least, trying to.) Truly.
Another thing I like is that Doug just doesn't teach the same routines again and again, he changes it up week to week and goes around checking each student for technique - and effort
