Services
The People's Yoga was established as a response to members of our community who found yoga was financially out of their reach but who wish to be included in the many and varied healing benefits the practice has to offer. It is our goal to foster a diverse, non-dogmatic, warm and encouraging environment free of competition and expectations to fit within the commercial mold.
This means that old air constantly being cycled out of the space and being replaced with air from outside. NE already had a system like this. To avoid this fee, students must cancel an in-person reservation 1 hour before class begins. We will not be recording these classes.
But, in order to support the teacher's ability to attend to in-person students without feeling required to demo every shape for remote students, in-studio will be on camera offering a visual aide to remote students.Wether we've never met or we've been practicing side-by-side for a decade, there's no escaping that we're in this together.

Our Foundational 300 hour Foundational Teacher Trainings consist of anatomy, philosophy & ethics, methods & practicum, and asana immersion. In Treasures of Engagement, teacher Suniti Dernovsek offers an immersive training designed to help participants advance their personal practice and develop the pedagogical skills necessary to teach yoga.
The same teachers you know and love in studio have created on demand classes for you to jump into (or rest into) at any hour of the day! This catalogue of classes is being added to weekly. Currently, some of those classes are recordings of our livestream schedule, but the catalogue will be primarily feature practices made exclusively for this on demand platform.

For context: I don't live in Portland. But since ClassPass has allowed businesses to offer virtual classes during this pandemic, I've been having a blast "traveling" to different cities for class.
I attended a Hatha class online with Kris. It was definitely more difficult than I anticipated, but I appreciated Kris' calm and encouraging nature. I believe they may have a Gentle Hatha class as well, so just FYI if Hatha isn't typically your thing. I would probably take that one next time! But I tried, and that's all that matters, right?
I loved the colorful mural

The People's yoga is a great neighborhood studio with a friendly and amazing staff, from the instructors to the front desk. There are so many great yoga teachers with an array of experience who all bring something a little different to the floor. And the addition of Heather Craig's Bootyluv classes is a total bonus!

I took yoga classes from Rachel Stern at my local gym for some time before switching to her classes at People's Yoga. Since joining People's, I've attended many classes with many different instructors... they all bring their unique selves and styles to the space and to the practice. So far, so great.. I feel welcome and comfortable, while being challenged to explore my practice on a deeper level. Rachel is amazing; so kind, engaged, funny and caring! I've been going to the Booty Luv classes, too... great to also get some dance/fitness classes out of the membership and Heather

The price, the studios, the instructors, and space, you absolutely have to check it out. You won't regret it.
Big shot out to Sarah Robinette, if you are looking for one of the best instructors in Portland look no further. Her knowledge of yoga, unique sequence, and how real she is as a person will leave you coming back for more.
You can truly tell she really loves what she does along with the rest of the staff at People's Yoga.

Really in love with this place. They have created a space an introvert like myself found welcoming and comfortable. I used the one month trail membership to check out some of their many instructors. I took a couple vinyasa classes that were a little too intense for my practice, and then I found Rachel Stern's all levels hatha flow class.
Rachel is an amazing teacher. Her style has a great attention to detail and shows a genuine care for her students. Her classes are scheduled for the max hour and a half length so she can take the time to talk to each student before class begins. She asks

I've been going to People's Yoga for almost 10 years now, on and off. As long as they remain in my neighborhood, I will continue to practice there; the class prices are still reasonable (they do $12 drop in compared to some studios who want to charge $18/class... which is just insanity in my opinion!) Studio is very nice, clean, and the teachers that I follow are fantastic. So glad I've got such a great studio just a few blocks from home :)

This is the best yoga studio! i've taken classes at my neighborhood gym, but they were so crowded. You don't have to make reservations here because the room is huge. You can get a gentle class or something that will really get your heart rate up. I particularly love Heather Craig. I don't know the names of everyone at the front desk but Maggie Jane

I've been going here for several years now, and have taken multiple classes with several of the teachers. Overall, I find them compassionate, responsive and good at listening to various body needs and wants. The instructors at People's Yoga helped me realize how much I love yoga. It's also a safe and welcoming community for a diverse group of people.

I love Sara Robinette's class. I'd like to take a moment to publicly appreciate her and her teaching of yoga. She is authentic and funny. She doesn't seem to stop learning about yoga and meditation. She breathes real life into the practice and I feel so relieved that she isn't fixing herself into a yoga teacher role like many others tend to. She shares her high and low moments in life with awareness and humour. Her instructions are clear and knowledgeable, and her grounded yet slightly mischievous sprit comes through her in such a unique way.

Just did my first 60 minute vinyasa flow class here at 5:30 on a Monday night. I wasn't expecting the number of yogis and mats in the studio. There was approximately 6 inches between the mats so it was definitely a get friendly with your neighbor kind of yoga class.
I like the studio space, the lighting is really nice with the globe like lanterns shedding their ethereal pastel light on people bending and stretching. It was a pretty casual crowd, not a lot of competing yogis, or fitness buffs looking for tight glutes. I really like a more spiritually minded class and this class definitely

This is one of my most favorite studios ever.
The people that work here are amazing.
Truly.
There is so much knowledge shared, body awareness, theory, etc to glean from the teachers.
I deeply appreciate a very specified instruction; like when the teacher is very detailed about what muscles to engage and how, what to relax, what to notice... I have received such amazing guidance by everyone I have taken class with and I have had my yoga practice going strong for over 6 years now, and am still learning so very much every time.
I have been to other places and will occasionally leave feeling disenchanted

I really feel comfortable here.
I go to gentle yoga with Alix for $8. This class is held Tuesday night and Saturday morning. This is the first yoga class I have ever taken and I am always comfortable. I had done some stretching and yoga dvds previously and felt well prepared for this gentle class. They also rent out mats for $1 and all props are complimentary, so it's ok if you don't have your own stuff.
It's a nice space. It's large enough for about 20 people. It sometimes gets crowded, but I always feel like I have enough personal space. People are generally warm and friendly

They deserve a strong 4 stars here!
An incredibly welcoming studio with a no-frills approach! The practice space has a nice diffused, natural light feel...and feels fresh?...yeah, fresh...like a warm spring day. They do a lot right here and have GREAT PRICING!...nothing to knock here. The instruction was solid, just didn't impress me enough to earn 5 stars from a discerning yoga student. I went to a level 3 and a level 2 class and wasn't pushed like I have been in other studios.
