Yoga Refuge
We provide the space and support for you to let go of stress, build sustainable self-care habits and feel at home in your body, so that you can thrive in your life, work and relationships. I've been a member here for a little over a year and I love Yoga Refuge because its a really comfortable place to practice but I still feel like I'm being challenged.

I mostly came to yoga because I needed to calm myself down, and there are a lot of different teachers here, different styles, so I really appreciate having a range of things to choose from, so I'm still meeting my mission to calm myself down, but I'm also able to build strength, to try different things and to always feel like I'm supported.
Services
We are a Refuge: We strive to be "a retreat inside the city", where people can experience relief from the stress of modern life. We maintain a place of refuge through the way that we engage and set the tone within our space. Cleanliness, aesthetics, respect for the energy of a space and community are all ways that we practice being a Refuge.
We are located in the heart of Portland's historic Montavilla neighborhood, the only yoga studio east of Mt. Tabor, in the area known as Portland's "outer east side". We are conveniently close to I-205, I-84, and the Portland airport, and we are accessible through many modes of transport.

Our neighborhood is a very popular place to eat, shop and enjoy the day, and on street parking is free and readily available, though you may need to walk up to one city block from your spot, depending on the time of day.Plentiful bike parking is available across the street at the BiPartisan Cafe. Find us at 7831 SE Stark St. #300.
You can cancel your online registration anytime up until 2 hours before the class start time. If you do not cancel more than 2 hours before class starts, and you do not show up for class, you will still be charged for the class. If you are on your 30 day welcome special and no-show twice, your trial will be cancelled without refund.
We welcome new students, from those who are brand new to yoga to those who are looking for a new practice space or community! We offer free 30-minute wellness strategy sessions, where Yoga Refuge owner, Danielle Clothier, will work with you to answer questions you may have about a yoga practice. Yoga 101 is a 3 part series designed for brand new beginners, offered quarterly.
Video streaming classes are held via ZOOM and a link to class will be emailed to all registrants 60 minutes before class start time. A recording of the class is sent out to all registered students and is available for you to watch at your convenience for 48 hours. Reach out with any questions to info@yogarefugepdx.com or call 702-907-7831 and we'd be more than happy to help.

I feel amazing after every class I attend here. The poses feel like they help address common body challenges that come up from working behind a desk for hours. It's a laid-back atmosphere with great age diversity. Not a competitive lulu lemon vibe, which I appreciate. But it's also not an over-the-top hippie feel. Super accessible and welcoming.

My brother and I took the intro to Yoga series, and had an amazing experience. Danielle is supportive, engaging, and joyful to be around. We were worried about feeling out of place, but we felt welcomed and encouraged. Thanks!

Gorgeous hardwood floors, ambient light. I love the classes I've taken. It is more than a studio, it is a loving community.

It’s so good to have Yoga Refuge in Montavilla. The instructors are warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, clear and compassionate. I have taken classes with three different instructors and each have been great. All poses can be modified; they want you to feel comfortable and to attend to your needs, and those who want to reach further are likewise encouraged. I wish I could attend a class daily! Prices are affordable and they have great packages for folks new to the studio. If you’re a Montavillain you’re in luck for all yoga needs!

I've really enjoyed Yoga Refuge so far! It's the first yoga studio I've gone to where I don't feel judged. The classes are great for every level whether it's your first class or you've been doing yoga for years! I prefer Vinyasa and Eliana mostly teaches that class...and SHE IS AMAZING! I get sad on Mondays and Tuesdays and Fridays when that class isn't offered--but it is forcing me to try different styles, so it's a win-win :) Also the founder, Holly, reaches out to new students and offers them a free 30 minute yoga intentions setting appointment...that's an amazing offer. I feel at home here

If cost weren't a factor I would give this place 5 stars! I am using the introductory month, and loving it. The space itself is beautiful and welcoming. There are a lot of classes on offer, and each one I've attended seems quite suitable for all levels of practice. I like the variety of instructors, each one with their own style. The studio is well stocked with props and assists, and the mats are available for rent. I won't be able to afford any kind regular membership after the intro ends, but! they do offer a "community" class taught by a student that is priced on a sliding scale below their

Have taken 5 daytime classes at Yoga Refuge. Each instructor - Micki, Jennifer and Heather - is knowledgeable, welcoming and flexible to the needs of individual students in their own unique ways. I so enjoy the top floor studio itself - how it overlooks Montavilla and Mt. Tabor and is always full of natural light. Will keep coming back!

I am new to Portland in the second half of 2019. This is my favorite yoga studio in southeast Portland - and I have tried a handful. The reason - the instructors here create a strong sense of community and caring. I can practice yoga anywhere - but what I need, in addition, is a welcoming, compassionate practice - and that is exactly what I am finding here. Because I travel so much, I haven't had a chance to appreciate too many of the instructors but have especially enjoyed Jennifer's Sunday morning Gentle Yoga, Sasha's Hatha classes and Restorative Yoga with Andrea. Happy practices, yogis!!!

I was visiting Portland last week and saw the great reviews on yelp so I decided to give it a try. I took a 7:30pm Yin class with Larkin and I was super impressed with the studio space, the class and of course Larkin. She was great and very welcoming. If I lived in Portland, I would make this my home studio for sure.

I have a job that is basically all manual labor and I have been at it for over seven years. It takes a toll on the body and I've been trying to find ways to repair the damage I've done to myself so I can keep doing what I do. I've started with massage therapy and now I've taken to some yoga.

Yoga Refuge is right in Montavilla and also happens to be the closest yoga studio to my home. It turned out that a woman I work with also goes here and she highly recommended the spot. When looking on the website I found a few classes that would work for a newbie like myself. Restorative

My son and I have been taking the mama and baby yoga with Kate- we love it! It is a beautiful studio and Kate is very encouraging and kind. My son is a very busy crawler and Kate often engages with him while I try new poses. She does a good job making all the students feel at home. We leave every class feeling relaxed, happy, and with clear personal goals for the week. I highly recommend this yoga studio.

I've lived in the Montavilla neighborhood for a couple of years and just re-started my yoga practice after having a baby. I cannot give enough praise to this studio for offering affordable childcare in studio! It is challenging for most to find time to attend class, add a under school age child into the mix and forget about it. I got a 4 class a month package which makes the childcare only $5 a class.
Not only that, there are no compromises made by me for this perk. The upstairs space is beautiful and most importantly, the teachers I've had have been top notch. I feel more relaxed the

I'm almost done with my 2 week unlimited trial ($25) and so far, I'm in love!
Studio is very welcoming and not filled with stuck up "yoga types".
They offer a variety of classes (gentle, vinyasa, mom/baby, hatha) and typically have a morning, afternoon, and evening class each day. Something for everyone.
I enjoy the hatha classes as they cater to all levels and often allow some time to practice inversions. This class can be as relaxing or challenging as you make it.
They have a few different types of memberships...I'll be doing the $90/month unlimited once my trial is

I've had 2 pilates/yoga fusion classes with Anastasia Gimbill and I've really enjoyed them. She is going to help me get my posture back!
The space is nice, up some stairs, off of SE Stark across from Academy Theater.
Classes are affordable, the studio is clean and the equipment is new and in nice shape.
A great spot to get the blood flowing on a rainy day...

This place is a hidden gem. I live in the NE area and I've been "studio shopping" since I moved here.

I've practiced and got certified in NYC and I moved here after a 2 yr detour through LA (hardest place to find an intimate genuine studio - ugh!). I am so happy to have found this cozy little studio in Montevilla. It is very very reminiscent of the studio I was certified at in NY. Immediately I felt connected to it.

This sweet yoga studio is intimate, non-threatening, comfortable and relaxed.

I am not a seasoned yogi and hate feeling like the dufus in the class. The teachers at Yoga Refuge take the time to get to know each person, encouraging every participant along the way, inviting questions and assisting when needed. Additionally, the teachers use the class to explain the health benefits and information on exactly what different positions are doing to your physiology. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the space for meditation and balance, but the learner in me loves to understand the moves and the
