Unified Therapies is an Asheville physical therapy practice. We combine Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and Mental Health Services to treat individuals with complex diagnosis in the Asheville area. Services
Allison, or "Al" as she prefers to be called by her patients, has a Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy with a concentration in Neurology from the University of Maryland. Allison is certified in both Neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) and LSVT BIG, which aids in the treatment of people affected by Parkinson's Disease, helping to train them to use their bodies more effectively.
Individuals navigating life with a neurological disorder can require a combination of treatments including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Mental Health Therapy. Gaining physical strength is just one aspect of treatments. We extend our services and expertise to include educational resources, support groups, home evaluations and safety screenings.
Individuals who have experienced a stroke can face a multitude of challenges in the weeks, months and even years after the incident. The goal in rehabilitation after a stroke is to help the individual regain cognitive and physical function. Physical therapy provides Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) for muscle recruitment during activities, improving gross motor skills and increasing strength to stabilize joints.

After my low back pain and foot pain cleared up, my walking improved so now I can go hiking.
The multidisciplinary team at Unified Therapies has the ability to effectively assess and treat a wide range of diagnoses and obstacles that our clients face. We work closely with each individual to determine a treatment plan to include one or more applications of care, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and Mental Health Services.

Unified Therapies is top notch! I received physical therapy for foot pain, knee pain, hip pain, and low back pain. After Allison assessed me, she stated "every thing changes when the feet hit the ground." She was right. She treated my foot pain which helped my low back pain. After my low back pain and foot pain cleared up, I walking improved to now I can go hiking. Allison truly assesses the whole person, not just one thing. I am so happy she looked at my feet to truly assess what was causing my problem. Thank you Unified Therapies to getting me back to my hobbies just in time for the warm weather

I am writing this because I think so many times the wonderful things that happen to us in our lives are not shared with others. My personal experience with Unified Therapies has been life changing. When I first walked through their door I could barely walk and had an almost useless right arm from a bad fall. I choose them because they are so conveniently located a stones throw from my house. I knew that I could drive the one block to get there. Upon leaving Care Partners it was suggested I go to their Rehabilitation Outpatient Therapy Clinic. I am so glad that my insistence on going where I wanted

I can't recommend Unified Therapies more highly! After a few sessions, I feel like I can move almost freely for the first time in many years. After sitting for all of 2020, I had lost so much strength and muscle tone that I was hardly able to walk or stand. Now I'm able to do many of the things I haven't been able to do in years! I am so glad that I took my son's suggestion and came here for therapy. I had no idea how much I had lost, until I started getting my life back again.

Allison Fender was the therapist who helped me with my wife. She was exceptional. She had great patience and skill in helping to relieve my wife of the symptoms of Lock Jaw. In a short two months she was able to help my wife to be able to communicate. Her assistance can not be measured in words - it was too exceptional. She made my wife very happy on every one of her house calls. I can't thank her enough.

Allison is highly professional, kind, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. I know Allison personally and professionally. I not only highly recommend her, I recommend her to my family, patients, and colleagues. She is a step above other therapist. She goes above and beyond. You will not be disappointed with the level of care you receive. She works hard with each patient, making each care individualized, as well as making sure goals are met. After a surprising and sudden onset of Bell's Palsy (muscle paralysis) in my face, I called Allison and she saw me immediately. She worked with me twice a week for 5 weeks, sent me home with exercises, checked in on my progress between sessions, and endlessly cheered me on when I was afraid I wouldn't heal. I am grateful for her help and compassion.

My partner is recovering from a stroke. She has been going to Unified Therapies for a while now and has received superior support. She worked with Katherine (Kate) Levy, speech-language pathologist and she helped with not only speech but memory also.
