Hobbies: Gardening, hiking. Favorite thing about MKS? Happy, excited kids. Family: Husband Joe, kids Alisa, Joe and Blake. Dog, Radar. Anything Else? I love watching my kids excel at their passions: choir, football, baseball, ROTC, art and wrestling. Favorite thing about MKS? My favorite thing about MKS is the amazing staff, doctors, and the families we get to see everyday.
Working with children is my favorite part of pediatric dentistry. The opportunity to work with kids always brightens my day and allows me to have fun while providing their dental care. While I was born in San Diego, my family moved to Reno when I was five so, I consider Reno my home. I attended the University of Nevada, Reno for my undergraduate education and then moved to San Francisco to attend the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.
I can not say it enough but this place is ahhhhhmazing! Dr. Gookin and his staff are always kind and courteous. Dr. Gookin does not offer unneeded treatment and explains all options possible to allow the parents to make the right decision for their child. This is not one of those "absolute dental" type chains that only cares about numbers.
We highly recommend you find a 'home' for your child's dental needs by one year of age. Kids who have a dental home receive more appropriate care, routine cleanings, and develop a better relationship with their dentist. You should try creating a fun and enjoyable atmosphere on the way to the dentist which will help them have a more positive experience.

This is the best dentist office in the Reno/Sparks area! We drive across town to see Dr. Gookin at the Double R location. Even though there is a My Kid’s Smile right by our house. We have tried a few other dentist offices in town. But we love this location the best, hands-down! Dr. Gookin is very patient and kind, I love that they have the TVs on the ceiling while the kids lay back in the chair, & my kids love the quarter machine prizes at the end. My kids used to freak out at the dentist, but not at this office. They are no longer afraid to go to the dentist.

Dr. Gookin and his staff give excellent service. My kids (5&8 years old) do pretty good now but they didn’t start off happy about being at the dentist. They were skeptical. Over time the staff and doc have won them over so they are good visiting the office. This office is friendly and patient with the kids (and parents 😏). I love how they genuinely care and listen. Even though they’re always very busy they/he takes the time to focus on you and your child when they’re with you. I just want to say that Dr.Gookin and his staff are super amazing! They always go the extra mile when we bring our kids. Not to mention that our children love Dr.Gookin just as much. He takes his time to understand the kids feelings and puts them at ease before starting any treatments. We give them 1000 stars if we could. :)

We really like Doctor/Gookin and his assistant. They deserve a Best Dentist badge!!!!! I love that he was very informative and fun to talk to. Goes above and beyond our expectations of explaining the dental procedure details along with his assistant. That is top notch and cool kids Doctor to be around our kid. My son felt super comfortable and he was so nervous when he first got there but I repeat the doctor and his assistant are extremely professional and we just love the excellent service we were provided!!! Can’t really say the same for the front office but I guess they do what they can.

We’ve been seeing Dr Gookin at this office for 5 years now. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Dr Gookin is awesome with the kids, and always addresses any questions or concerns.
The office is always clean and kid-friendly. I love the funny signs around the office. I can’t imagine taking my kids anywhere else.

All the staff at My Kids Smile are incredibly friendly and helpful. The assistants do a phenomenal job at ensuring the comfort of the kids and make the experience enjoyable and not intimidating for them. Dr. Gookin is equally friendly as he is knowledgeable. He expresses his concerns and treatment in a way that ensures an understanding on both patient and parents part.

A great first experience for our son who had a tooth extraction. The staff was very thorough in what was going to happening and answered any questions we had. Valerie went above and beyond to help this dad during the appointment.I would definitely recommend this practice to everyone I think the staff is first class. Huge thanks to the whole My Kids Smile staff !
