Carolee J Horning Counseling
Trauma comes in many shapes and forms. A deeply distressing and disturbing experience in your life can have many negative effects such as feeling numb or like you're just "going through the motions, " deep depression and sadness, or feeling "broken." But you are not alone in feeling this way. When it comes to the damage of childhood sexual abuse, one out of three girls and one out of six boys have suffered.

That is your wife, your brother, your husband, or the cashier at your grocery store. Or maybe it's you. Yet that is just one form of trauma. I understand the power of trauma and how it can destroy you, overtaking your mind and your body. It's a wound that changes a person. Especially if you don't let it out.
Services
If you are looking for a counselor with a calling to help others find their own path on a healing journey of a happy and healthy life, has excellent active listening skills and experience with trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, and is open to all cultures, ethnicities, and beliefs, then I hope you will call me.
I realize that no two people are the same and as such tailor my therapy to meet the specific needs of my clients. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression or any other issue, I will help you recognize underlying problems, fully realize your strengths and adjust certain behaviors and thoughts to see things a different, healthier way.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT is a short-term, problem-focused form of behavioral treatment that helps people see the difference between beliefs, thoughts and feelings, and free them from unhelpful patterns of behavior. CBT is grounded in the belief that it is a person's perception of events - rather than the events themselves - that determines how he or she will feel and act in response.
Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it's a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster.

While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed. In these circumstances, the support, guidance and assistance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from different treatment approaches. EMDR therapy is an integrative psychotherapy and uses a technique called bilateral stimulation to repeatedly activate opposite sides of the brain.

Short and sweet. Carolee is pure magic. Smarts, skills, personality, and so invested in helping to wade through things. I moved to Eugene in July, and I am truly blessed to have found her. A dream therapist in every single way.

No judgment and a listening ear. Carolee is someone I cannot recommend enough. I thank her in part for my amazing job and all the support she's given me in the past two years. when you're talking with Carolee you know you're talking with someone who cares on a very deep level. I know others who have benefited from her help as well. For whatever it is you're striving, whether it be strength to overcome obstacles, bravery to face your fears, or the self esteem to keep you moving forward, Carolee will help. Thank you Carolee
