Services
The Platter Restaurant, as we know it today, was originaly built in 1880 by Frederick Prentice as a brothel to accommodate visiting businessmen and wealthier locals. There were outbuildings just behind the main building built in a U-shape where customers could discreetly "hide" their buggies. Living quarters were provided for the "ladies" in the main house.
The Platter serves regional dishes and specializes in Texas style pit barbecue techniques for a number of our meat plates. A variety of speciality beer and wine options are available for dinner or at the lounge and changes to the menu occur seasonally and based on the Chef's discretion.

But not to worry, our famous homemade popovers will stay the same and will continue to have their distinctive fluffy buttery taste that first made the "popover" famous in 1876 after the first recipe was published by M. N. Henderson in the cookbook "Practical Cooking".All entrees are served with soup or salad and choice of cheesy grits, mashed potatoes, hash browns, french fries, or baked potato.
Located just steps from Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay at 315 Turner Rd, Ashland, WI 54806, The Platter has been a staple of Ashland, WI - long enough that our building is an official historical site! Ashland County's finest dining is nestled against the Prentice Park wildlife sanctuary and only 3 minutes from the Bayfield (Hwy 13) / Ashland (Hwy 2) split.
Ashland, WI is home to an endless number of opportunities with which to fill the hours in between your meals at The Platter Restaurant. Here are a few of our favorite spots. While the entire Chequamegon Bay Area we are located within is great for hiking and bird watching, our local Prentice Park as well as shoreline trail are only a few blocks away.

This place is great! Visiting from out of state, and the food here is amazing! Scallops were seared to perfection. Prime rib was delicious. French onion soup, north coast chowder, and popovers were all super yummy too.

The Hostess was rather snotty at telling us there was a 45 minute wait, but when we mentioned our reservation then she was cheerful. Everyone must know to get here at 5 when they're still in stock with everything. We were there around 6pm-7pm and I tried ordering and was told it wasn't available, tried again and even my boyfriend tried ordering and was told neither one he selected were available anymore. The food was delicious that we FINALLY got to eat. I know restaurants can run out of food when it's made to serve that day but at 6 to run out already, I thought that was dinner hour. This would
