Stayed at Historian Inn last night and it was wonderful. The owner gave me a military discount and was cool with my service dog,Eskimo. The room was well appointed and comfortable after a day of driving and hiking in snow. The Sunrise cafe had delish spinach quiche ,muffin and the coffee hit the spot! We shall be Bach...

Adorable and cute inn! The service was great. We forgot a bottle opener and they delivered us one straight to our room within minutes of contacting the front desk.
The complimentary muffin and coffee cake from the cafe were delicious. The white chocolate cranberry was one of the best muffins I have ever had.
We also enjoyed a 5 course meal across the street at The J.T. Basque bar.

We had a great experience for a one night stay here while in town shopping. Accommodations were very clean, dog friendly, lots of great restaurants and pubs walking distance. We have dogs and there were lots of places to walk the dogs nearby for exercise. Management was super nice, Christmas decorations were great and the Sunday morning breakfast was excellent with great bakery goods from next-door. We will come again

It was dark at the end of my drive from Idaho and this had been my destination. I pulled my fairly new Volvo wagon into their parking and noted very few other cars. The Caldor fire was burning and it was the day before all the roads to South Lake Tahoe were CLOSED.
Looking like I'd been on a weeklong cattle drive I walked my dog around the block to relieve himself and found my way to the desk- greeted by an automaton of an evening clerk behind a tall desk in a faux fancy environment, holding my 6 lb service animal in my arm so he could clearly read his ID jacket..

This place is antiquated, but it's well kept. We had a room on the first floor with doggos. The room was okay, the staff was phenomenal. They called ahead to make sure we had pets and stayed up to wait for us. We really enjoyed connecting with the on-site contacts who made our trip a lot less exhausting!

I tried posting with ZERO stars, because this is what they deserve. Yelp should fix this..
My parents lived in Gardnerville, NV. My mother passed away last year and because of Covid, her service was delayed from February to June. The week before the service, the governor there cancelled all gatherings so the service was cancelled. I had a room reserved and paid for one of two nights when I booked. I called to cancel and they were pleasant and said the charge would be reversed. That never happened. I called for months, sometimes daily and was told messages were taken, someone would call me back

We just stayed at this inn for 3 nights. More negatives than positives. The first room we were given had an ant infestation. Room two had a big oatmeal spill in the microwave. We asked to have it cleaned, front desk promised it would get done. It did not and we were informed by the front desk that it was our fault for not putting a request on our door. The landscaping is horrible, weeds and dirt only. Their website is misleading about the quality of their rooms and building 4 burnt out lightbulbs in our room, lampshade dropping plastic bits. Not impressed with the staff, busy on their

What an exceptional staff. My family was attending a wedding, booked several rooms in advance and over a couple of weeks made numerous changes. Spoke with 3 different people and received extremely professional and friendly service each time. The rooms were nice and very clean. We would definitely recommend and be using again.

Overall, this stay was great, but will break this down into specifics.
Staff: I would give this area 5-stars! Every staff member we encountered was extremely kind and helpful.
Location: 5-stars in my opinion, you can't get better than this location. Its right where you want to be for dining options, great shops and close to the Kingsbury Grade (road to South Lake Tahoe).
Cleanliness: Okay...we visited Memorial Day weekend. So we're talking right after being able to take guests. However, if you're going to open, clean the damn rooms. I'm not talking each day after we left

Came here alone with my 5 year old son and I had a few initial issues however the staff was extremely helpful and available even at late hours which was so great. It's a nice place in the heart of town and overall a good place to stay. Clean and well staffed. I appreciated that all my issues were taken care of timely and professionally within minutes. Will stay again.

The Historian is probably a three star hotel in the outside world, but no to us. Clean rooms, welcoming pet policy, great WiFi, absolutely no smoking, reasonable prices (very!) and directly across the street from the JT Bar and fifty yards from the Overland.
The staff, though: super welcoming and accommodating....especially Christie, who hunted the whole hotel for a mini of my wife's favorite tequila for our anniversary.
You can't do better anywhere near Gardnerville, especially if you travel with pets.

The rooms are large with several seating options. There are bathtubs with lots of leg room. It was quiet with an back parking lot. The staff was great and gave me great tips on where to go and how to get there. But when I came down in the morning for coffee, the owner was sprawled on the couch fast asleep and the entire lobby smelled quite strongly of body odor. There was no coffee or breakfast ready. This happened twice. Although the second time the body odor was not as noticeable. So much for quiet elegance.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.
Any previous positive reviews should be ignored as this hotel is now under new ownership/management. I understand that it used to be a good hotel, however, under the new management there has been a sharp decline.
I went to this hotel because my father was terminally ill. Immediately, upon my arrival (Day 1) the maid ripped me off. I barely got out of my room, went to my car and realized I forgot something. The maid was already in my room. I realized a few hours later that she had taken a number of items.
I filed a police report which I had to keep updating as I found

We found this place on the Hotel Tonight app.
What we loved:
1. They are super dog friendly. We have 3 dogs so we usually have a hard time finding a place that will allow them to stay in the room, and if we do they usually charge per pet per night. This place welcomed our babies with excitement and even gave them gift baskets with a blanket, dog bowl, treats, and toys! And guess what!?!?! No fee! Just a refundable cleaning deposit.
2. The rooms were clean. They smelled clean even. Not musty and damp like most "pet friendly" rooms. There are hardwood floors instead of carpet, genius

Do not trust this hotel with anything. I originally made a call to this hotel and reserved a room. I never got an email or a confirmation or anything.
After driving up to Lake Tahoe via highway 88 in heavy snow it looked like we weren't going to make it. I called the lady and explain to her I had 3 Toddlers and I wanted to see what could be done if the roads were closed.
The lady was extremely unprofessional and could not assist me at all. She couldn't confirm that I had a reservation, she couldn't find my name and told me that she would call me back.
So highway 88 turns out was
