Horner's syndrome is characterized by unilateral ptosis and miosis secondary to a loss of sympathetic neurologic tone to the eye. May be associated with iris heterochromia and/or a difference in the amount of sweating between the right and left side of the face, head, or body.

Dr. Shin provided a general explanation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and the pupil abnormalities that occur with an imbalance between the two systems. With Horner's syndrome, the pupil size difference is generally more apparent in the dark than the light. Pharmacologic testing for Horner's syndrome with cocaine drops was positive because cocaine caused dilation of the unaffected pupil but not the smaller affected pupil.
Adults should have a dilated eye examination every 1-2 years. This visit includes a vision check, refraction, intraocular pressure check, dilated fundus examination, and other specialized tests appropriate for your condition. Regular eye exams can help detect problems before they cause permanent damage and are important to help identify vision problems aggravated by workplace demands.

I have been taking both my boys to Dr. Shin for a few years now. Although I have had some long wait times, it hasn't been every time and over the past few months I have noticed a big improvement. In general specialist in NV are hard to come by so the ones that are here are understandably swamped. Both my boys have had regular check up, dilations and eye surgery. Overall I am happy with the level of care my kids have had.

5 Star experience from start to finish. Dr. Shin and her team are top-notch in every respect. After months of suffering from depression caused by diplopia vision caused by the botched surgery of another surgeon, Dr. Shin corrected everything. She and her team really put the skip back in my step. It's life-changing and they have my sincerest gratitude. Thank you.

This place is awful. I'm surprised they don't charge for the public parking lot. Storm Trooper mentality for the office staff is kind.

Although the Covid protocols have been lifted, here you must wait in the parking lot to wait for your appointment and pay whatever they demand before you can even walk in the door. You have to pay over the phone. I guess they don't want to open the door if you don't pay in advance. Look for another provider. We are.

Dr Shin is really good but the front desk person Nicole treats patient’s especially those with disabilities disrespectfully. No one deserves to be treated in that way. The clinic should train their personnel to treat people with kindness and with respect. It’s a shame that there are people like this who are people’s first experience at a clinic.

Too bad the doctor's a good one but her front desk staff NICOLE is not only rude but also the poorest customer service skills. She is also insensitive to people with disabilities or hearing deficiencies which is unfortunately the clientele of Dr Shin. Because of poorly trained front desk staff I will NOT recommend that ANYONe who wishes to have a good day ever come to this office unless NiCOLE is property trained and she develops empathy and the skills to man the front desk. Because of her many people who unfortunately will benefit from the doctor's expertise will choose not to have

I don't understand all the bad reviews on this place and Dr. Shin -- I had nothing but a great experience. I came on here just to make sure to write a review because I really think they deserve it. I took my 7 month old daughter here to get her eye checked out and the office staff was super helpful getting us an appointment. They were very clear that we'd be waiting in the car for a while to go in due to Covid, which honestly was really nice for us so I could spend some time with my daughter (I have 3) alone. The wait was long, but they were great about letting us know what was going on. We were

Dr. Shin may be great, but her STAFF is HORRIBLY-MANNERED. They will hang up on you, even mid-asking a simple question about where to schedule a simple eye surgery (whether it be at her office or the surgery center) and I could hear some girl in the background tell her co-worker Marcella to hang up on me. She abruptly did. I don't know who they think they are, but learn better customer service, and leave whatever is bothering you at home.
Truly rude girls, who could have let me finish my question and direct me in the right direction with proper communication. Not too hard.

Please do yourself a favor and don't come here. I know there's not much Pediatric Opthalmologist to choose from In Las Vegas but I would rather spend the money and time to go out of state than here. We came here to get a new prescription for my 7 y/o son who is struggling in school. His regular Opthalmologist is in California but due to the pandemic we weren't able to go and decided to give this clinic another try. I knew we shouldn't have gone back as we didn't have a good experience when he was a baby and we first saw Dr Shin. Well we came here for prescription update

I have never encounter with rude receptionist and incompetent staff when it come to doctor visit. The staff (receptionist ) intentionally neglect to schedule my son appointment because at the time when I was there in front of her , she literally told me I should call instead of scheduling with her while she was doing nothing and with no patient .when I said why cant you help me scheduling since im infront of you , she got mad and throwing attitude at me for asking her to do something that take 30 seconds .

The front staff is cold and needs to be trained on how to speak to patients. I get that dr offices make wait. My appointment was at 8:50am I didn't get out until 1pm. I think that is ridiculous and a little bedside manner goes along way esp with front desk staff. The dr was nice and professional she was clearly rushing bc she was so back upped with patients. I didn't like that too much.

In summary the staff is abrasive and rude, and Grace Shin does not give you the time of day and does not know what she is doing, or is just so money hungry that she doesn't care.
My 3 year old daughter had an infected stye that was not going away, on the first appointment we waited in the car, thats where you have to wait due to covid, for almost 1 hour, after being brought in she prescribed tobradex and bacitracin, and told us to come back in 4 weeks... my daughters eye did not improve we came in for follow up and she says she needs to have it "cut open" and then goes out comes

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Shin. She is patient, meticulous, and gentle with patients. She was the first one to properly diagnose an eye condition that had plagued me for years. I found her by accident via a Google search, and feel so lucky to have her treat me. Have since left town, and although my new doctor is also great, she had a special touch.

If I could give ZERO stars, I would! This place is very unprofessional, their staff doesn't do well in communication. I would NOT RECOMMEND this place, EVER! This Dr. thinks that because she does what she does, gives her and the staff the right to treat patients like garbage, not ok. Very disappointing!!!

Dr. Shin is a wonderful doctor. The wait can be long as she is the only doctor in the practice. However, she spent a long time with us explaining my son's condition and answering all of my questions even though my 2 year old son was EXTREMELY agitated and fought with and kicked at the staff his entire exam. None of them were angry or even noticeably bothered by it. I do not like long waits at the doctor's office but if I am waiting to see a skilled practitioner I know truly cares about the wellbeing of my child, I'll wait all day with a smile on my face. Good doctors are hard to come by.

Best eye doctor in town! We love Dr. Shin and all the staff! We have been patients for 6 years. She has helped correct lazy eye issues for 2 of my children, and my son has been going to her at least twice a year since he was 6 weeks old. Yes there is a couple hour wait time usually, BUT they are worth it!

NO! This lady kept pushing for surgery. The first time, we were there 5 hours and only saw her maybe half an hour. I understand needing to dilate her eyes and waiting on that, but when we did see her she was in a rush. She barely gave me and my husband information about our daughters condition and when we asked questions, she just repeated what she had already said which we had questions about. The second time we went, she just pushed for surgery. And when my husband said we wanted to discuss it before rushing in, she became cold and short with us. Me and my husband are still confused on what exactly

This place is the slowest eye center in the world. Our appointment was at 220 and it's 420 and we are still waiting to see Dr Shin. Granted my son had to get his eyes dilated, but this is not the first time we wait for hrs. The front desk lady was no help with questions I had on the paperwork , super dry, not even a small smile. Definitely not coming back after today.

I had eye problems for about two years and it was getting worse.
I saw many ophthalmologist in LV, none of them could help. They made my eyes worse, for example putting me on so many prescriptions and drops that I had to get my eye probe because of excess tearing. So I gave up here and had to look other places. I found a great eye surgeon and had eye surgery on Sept 28 in CA, after my surgery I had some eye discomfort. I needed to find a new local ophthalmologist in LV who has experience in performing the same procedure I had performed in CA and I could trust. Luckily, I found a incredible

Horrible place!!
So my 5 month old baby scratched the inside of his eye really bad, I took him to his Dr. But said he didn't have the right tools to see how deep it was. So then gave me a referral for this place.

Now, when I showed up for appt trying to check in, they asked for the copay. I asked if they could bill it? Cause I honestly didn't have the money. She said NO, policy is they can't bill you the copay. Told her to please ask someone else to see if they would see him and just bill it. Then this other girl came out to tell me that sorry that is the policy.

But Seriously

Was never told this would be the estimated time of my appointment. Dont make the same mistake I have, go somewhere else!!! 4 hours into my visit and still waiting to finish up. Walked into the office at 8:53 for an 8:50 appointment. Waited approximately an hour to see the vision tech. It's been over an hour and a half and we still haven't seen the dr. We were informed they were running late.

We still have another 1-2 hours left just to get my son's eyes dilated and checked she said.

The waiting area for the children is nice though. Problem is there is 10 kids in there waiting for one dr. This is beyond ridiculous.

There's nothing professional about abusing people's time like this. If you can't handle a high patient load stop taking

I have been taking my daughter to Dr. Shin for a couple years now. We took are daughter there for strabismus. Dr. Shin told us that we would probably see a positive change in our daughter not long after the surgery. Two days after her surgery our daughter took her first real steps and started walking, something she had been behind on.

Whenever I have spoken with Dr. Shin she covers any concerns I may have. I understand that there is usually a wait but for the amazing care my daughter has gotten it is more than worth the wait.

This is the first time I have been hear to see dr shin with my granddaughter it has now been an 1 1/2 and we still have not seen the doctor. I went to ask what the problem was and they told me that we should have been told that it's a 2 to 4 hour wait. I have never heard of anything so absurd. If you call and make and appt make sure you are ask how long you will be waiting. If this appt was for me I would have walked out of here and found a new doctor. No doctor is that good to leave patients waiting for this amount of time

My daughter's pediatrician recommended Dr. Shin for some vision problems my little girl was having. Before going I asked the nurses and doctors I work around and multiple people told me that she is the best in the west, that people come from the surrounding states to see her. She is one of only two ophthalmologist (eye surgeons) in Vegas.
So on our first visit we had to fill out a ton of paperwork, but the whole appointment ended up being five hours long. Took two hours to be brought back into the room, an hour and a half for her eyes to dilate and another hour for the doctor

My son has been going to Ideal Eyecare for several years now and has gotten excellent care from Dr Shin.
The office staff is nice and the wait time was less than 10 mins every visit.
Dr. Shin is also a top surgeon and my son will be scheduling eye surgery soon to correct his eye position.
I would recommend her service to anyone that needs a competent ophthalmologist and corrective eye surgery.
