Services
Conover Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1988 by Dr. Donald Whitener. While working as an Associate Veterinarian in Lincolnton, Dr. Whitener was exploring western North Carolina for possible locations to open his own hospital. He saw a need in the Conover community and opened the business here. The business quickly grew and in 1993 he made his first expansion to the facility and added more kennel and a retail area.
We are a fully equipped facility offering wellness exams and vaccinations, surgeries including orthopedics, spay and neutering, mass removals and emergency procedures. We have a dental suite, x-ray capability, and a full in-house laboratory. We offer separate dog and cat boarding with hand-walking three times daily in our fenced-in yards.
In your search for a veterinary facility, we believe you should expect high quality care as well as great service. Our goal has been to assemble a veterinary health care team committed to providing exceptional client service and veterinary health care. Our commitment to you is to continue to offer our world class service and a state of the art veterinary facility.
1. Payment is expected when services are rendered. In order to focus on our patients' needs, customer service and minimizing costs, we do not bill. 2. We accept debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover), Care Credit, checks and cash. All cards must be signed by the owner of the card. 3. When unexpected illness strikes a pet, unexpected expense strikes as well.
Conover Veterinary Hospital offers a progressive new approach to veterinary care. Our Wellness Protocol focuses on preventative medicine based on the specific life-stage of your pet. Each patient is assessed individually based on factors such as species, breed, age, and environmental challenges. Next we offer recommendations for prevention, nutrition, and diagnostic work-ups appropriate for your pet.

I can't speak to the other Doctors in the practice, but Dr. Talley is amazing. She is compassionate, communicative about treatment options, takes our budget into consideration, and I trust her with the most difficult decisions that must sometimes be made for our babies. She is equally wonderful with cats and dogs. She takes time to answer our questions and treats us with respect as well. Some vets can be condescending, or come off as judgmental (though I understand their perspective) and we have never experienced that with her.

Man, I love this practice. They have been helpful and kind for the decade I've been using them. They don't push expensive procedures that my pets don't need, and they provide compassionate care at every visit. I've put them through their paces with a dog with an intestinal issue, a dog with a rare autoimmune disorder, another with a broken shoulder, and another who tends to get beat up regularly. They have also treated all my fosters with loving care. Their prices are reasonable, and they have always been able to fit me in quickly.

Pet Died! I have had a Fancy Rat for 2 years. She was in very good health. When we changed her bedding (wood mulch) she contracted some (rat lice or rat mites). Called local Vet who said take her to Conover Vet/Animal Hospital so we did.
Took the Rat in on Thursday night & they tested the lice/mites and the applied a medicine to my wonderful Rat. Less then 2 days later my Rat was dead by early Saturday morning!
I would avoid this Vets office. I called and left a message for the Vet but she didn't even have the decency to call me back after a week!
