If you look at our Facebook and Instagram videos, you'll see people of widely varying ages and abilities practicing in the same room, but not "in unison" with one another - instead, you will notice that individuals are practicing each at their own pace, according to their unique capabilities and limitations.
At Richmond City Yoga, you may come and go whenever you wish during class hours, practicing only as much as you choose each time. Beginners are always welcome and receive individual instruction. Initial sessions typically last 45 minutes to an hour. No matter your age or condition, if you attend class consistently for one month, your balance and agility will improve, and you will become stronger, more flexible, and calmer.

Services
These classes are every weekday from 9:30-10:30 and consist of a short warm-up and then about half of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga, called out carefully with detailed instructions for relative newcomers. If you have never practiced Ashtanga, you are welcome to attend but might find it a little confusing at first: if you don't mind some initial confusion, please come!
New students can expect their first class to last about an hour, and to leave the studio feeling great - and with a specific 15-minute practice learned well enough to practice it on their own if inclined. You may arrive and depart whenever you wish during Mysore class -- practicing according to your own schedule, energy, and extent of learning -- while receiving individual instruction and assistance.
The power of the breath combined with the vibrational guide of the drum comes to life in an opportunity for you to come reset, let go, open, heal, express, shed, connect, rejuvenate, and recalibrate. Join us for a cathartic Full Moon Breathwork and Live Drumming journey led by Alison Hord of Golden Prana Breathwork accompanied by the rhythms of Druminyasa.
We provide mats for people who don't bring their own. If you don't have one already, I recommend waiting until you have practiced a few times before buying a mat, so that you can make a better informed purchase, as there are many different types of yoga mats available in the marketplace. No, you may walk into any Mysore class anytime during the class.

I have been going to Robbie’s studio for about a month now and it has been so transformative for me. I have never felt better physically or mentally. He is so encouraging and I didn’t feel like a lost beginner walking into the studio. It is a welcoming and positive environment were you are encouraged to start wherever you are and grow from there. I would recommend Robbie and Richmond City Yoga to anyone who is even slightly interested in yoga, I was hooked the first day.

RCY is a wonderful place where you can learn to develop a self practice of the ancient form of the Ashtanga practice. Robbie is an excellent teacher who will help you develop your own practice, at your own pace. You don’t need to feel a 100% of yourself each time you turn up. Robbie always provides modifications for every age, condition, Injury or energy level. The vibe of the studio and the whole RCY family bring joy and positivity to each day. I have never regretted walking into that door for a practice.😁.

I have been practicing yoga for the past three years and have gone to many different yoga studios under various practitioners. I practiced Ashtanga for a brief month in Miami Life Center a few years ago and have not been able to practice Ashtanga since (the areas I have lived never really offered it). I was thrilled when I found this studio while in Richmond for 10 days.
While Richmond City Yoga is not as large as Miami Life Center, it is far more intimate and the people are absolutely lovely. Robbie is supportive; professional; and great at explaining, modifying, and guiding you through your

I was referred to Ashtanga by several other local teachers as a way of strengthening my practice. I started attending RCY with a monthly membership in May. Robbie gently guides you through each sequence, making appropriate adjustments to each student as needed. I am in my mid-fifties and am amazed at my progress in 6 months! It is well-worth the time and the drive in to town. All levels/ages will benefit from this moving meditation.

I travel for work and had the pleasure to spend a morning at Richmond City Yoga. While I usually practice Vinyasa, here I had the opportunity to get an introduction to Ashtanga. I would recommend anyone who wants explore this form to stop by and speak with Robbie. He seemed knowledgeable, experienced and incredibly willing to share with me. He seems to be a true teacher invested in imparting a valuable practice to anyone who wants to learn.

I've been looking for a yoga place here in Richmond since we moved and I'm glad I found the best place. Meeting Robbie for the first time changed my life. He inspired me to practice everyday and I blame him for making me feel great every time. Mysore yoga for me is the foundation of all other kinds of yoga for you are taught how to do the poses correctly one by one. It feels like having a private session at a very low price. It also has a healing effect on me, I have an endometriosis and I felt the pain disappear as I continuously progress through the asanas. I'm also thankful to meet Brad and
