Services
Ophthalmology is a magical field where you can plant seeds of happiness. Nothing can be more precious than to see our beautiful world with your own eyes. For most of my patients "to see" literally means "to live." It gives me great satisfaction whenever I can give back this beautiful world to one of my patients so that they can appreciate it with their own eyes.
At Eye Care on 5th the first essential step to your eye healthcare is a comprehensive eye examination. Regular and thorough eye exams are the foundation of good eye health, especially because some vision problems and eye illnesses may have no obvious symptoms. Early diagnosis and immediate treatment are imperative for maintaining good vision and eye health, and whenever possible, for preventing or correcting vision loss.
If your comprehensive eye exam shows that corrective lenses are needed, you will be provided with an eyeglass prescription for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. We will determine your eyeglass prescription using the most precise and up-to-date phoropter while attentively taking into account your feedback as well as utilizing computer automated refractor and retinoscopic diagnostic technique.
During cataract surgery the eye's natural lens is replaced with an artificial lens (Intraocular Lens Implant or IOL). The plastic artificial lens used in cataract surgery is permanent, requires no care, and can significantly improve your vision. Newer artificial lens options include those that simulate the natural focusing ability of a young lens, allowing for distance as well as for some near vision.
Eyelid lesions (eyelid lumps and bumps) are very common, and the experienced ophthalmologists at Eye care on 5th treat them on an almost daily basis. An eyelid lesion sometimes forms a small eyelid mass, or eyelid tumor. For optimal diagnosis and treatment, removal and biopsy by your Manhattan ophthalmologist is usually required and can be done in our office at 25 5th Ave, #1A.

I met Dr Potapova in 2014. I requested a general eye exam and got a different battery of tests instead, leaving me with a big copay.
The pricing was unclear. Besides, no authorization or consent were asked.
The assistant was not very helpful either. She was fairly passive and did not request the right insurance.
I would avoid this place in the future. Please, find another truthful provider

After half a dozen other ophthalmologists gave me a three or four week wait before appointment, Dr. Potapova saw me same day, so I didn't have to run to the emergency room after experiencing a sudden loss of vision in one eye. She was thorough, professional, and kind. A class act worthy of 5th Avenue!
