Fantastic owner/manager and staff!!
I first bought jewelry from Wentworth & Sloan while I was in grad school at UNC in the late '70's. I believe the current owner managed the store for Mr. Sloan at that time.
Even though we have lived out of state ever since, we come back to Wentworth & Sloan when we want to purchase jewelry or have a watch or piece of jewelry repaired.
Hard to find a jewelry store like this one anywhere else!
Owner is EXCEPTIONALLY personable!!

I was gifted some jewelry I didn't want and took it yesterday to Wentworth & Sloan to see what they might offer for it. Maybe it's because I was wearing my old flannel and jeans with no makeup, but the lady more or less flared her nostrils at me. She left me standing there, took the bag into the back, then came out later holding one earring as though it smelled, and said, "We will not be purchasing this today." She then gave me an offer for the rest. I told her I'd like to get a second opinion and she said, "That offer doesn't hold. We might offer less if you come back another day." Well, fine

Worst shopping experience ever. My wife had dropped off some jewelry for repair and had seen a bracelet and ring that she liked, but she thought they were too expensive, so for her birthday I made an excuse and went there to quickly pick up the two pieces. I waited outside the store due to COVID limit for about 10 minutes until someone left who… had not been helped. This is the rudest store I’ve ever been in. There’s a better jewelry store in the same mall for both jewelry and repairs that treats customers properly. It was so bad, my family will be avoiding this mall until they do something about Wentworth and Sloan, which is a public nuisance. It’s unfortunate as we had been spending many thousands of dollars a year at this mall.

I would give 0 stars if I could. I went to get a ring appraised and was told it would take about 1 week. I called 8 days after dropping it off and was told it would be a few more days. I called 11 days after dropping the ring off and was told it would be a few more days. I called 15 days after dropping the ring off and was told that the appraiser was currently working on it and it would definitely be done by the end of the day. On 2/14/18, I entered Wentworth & Sloan Jewelers and asked two employees, a young guy, and an older guy if they could replace the battery in my Movado watch. Them: "Sure." Me: "What would the cost be?" Them: "$65." Me: "Seriously?" Them: "Yes." Me: "Thanks, but that's more than I wanted to spend for a battery." The store is nice, but it isn't… Tiffany's. And I get that they don't want to replace batteries in watches they don't sell, but the didn't say that. The "$65" answer they gave was ridiculous, insulting, offensive, and arrogant. Incredibly frustrating customer service experience trying to get a stone replaced in a ring. I had to call twice in three weeks to check on the job after never hearing from the store. On our final call, the manager mansplained to me that my description of events couldn’t possibly be correct because he would never make a mistake like that on an order — so what I was saying wasn’t true. I’m a really patient consumer. I know working in a retail business is difficult work — I’ve done it. There’s no excuse for treating a customer the way this store treated me. Love the new store. Wentworth and Sloan has really improved since they moved the engraving and watch repair across the hall. It's still in University Mall, just in a much nicer store. I felt more comfortable being able to talk to the watchmaker and watch him as he worked on my husband's Ball watch. I wouldn't trust anyone else. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Overall, a good experience.
