Before you can be approved for any form of laser vision correction, including LASIK, you will need to attend a consultation appointment with your surgeon. During the consultation, he will perform an examination of your eyes and use your medical and ocular history to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Preliminary tests will evaluate your pupils, intraocular eye pressures, visual fields, eye muscles, color vision, stereopsis or depth perception, binocularity, curvature of the cornea, and the power of your eye.
Wide range of lens types available such as one-day use, soft disposables, toric lenses for astigmatism, rigid gas permeable, hard, scleral, hybrid material lenses, bifocals, and more. Thorough contact lens fitting and instruction, including lessons on insertion, removal, wear-time, usage & cleaning regimens.

And just like that... a you can lose faith in one of your medical providers and decide to go elsewhere! Sigh...
We let our frustrations go the first time with the billing at Makar, but this time very frustrating and in all reality, unacceptable. When we went in, due to our first experience, we reiterated that we did not want any extra tests done that would be outside of our initial copay and were reassured by the gal checking us in that yes, we were just having eye exams for prescriptions. Hmph... not the case. Turns out additional tests were done and a couple tests for my husband were billed

Really really disappointed.
Was excited at first, nice office, fancy tools.
But tell me why you have a policy of canceling patient appointments if they are 10 minutes late, but making me wait over 30 minutes for my appointment???
My appointment was at 10am. I got there at 945. I had my screening done and at 1025am i had still not been seen by the doctor. I went to the desk and they said that is normal procedure and that I may need to wait another 15-20minutes.
......then why was my appointment at 10?!
I wish this worked out but that is awful customer service.
Do not recommend.

BEST eyecare in Anchorage. The doctors are patient and explain everything s0 that you can understand. Makar takes just about every insurance there is, and the staff are so helpful. I've needed to bring in my glasses in on a couple of occasions because of lost screws (lens pop out), nosepads lost, just to name a few, and they have fixed my glasses, no questions asked; I'm very grateful for Makar.

Love Makar. They're open Saturdays. Huge plus for a busy family such as mine. They are always busy but they are worth the wait in my opinion. Their midtown first floor location is also very convenient. They have the best technicians (those who help you pick out frames etc.) my daughter has always gone here for exams and glasses. My son with non-verbal autism must go to Alaska Children's Eye and Strabismus for his exams and prescriptions but we come to Makar to order his frames etc. we've been lucky to always get the same kind and patient technician. We are always comfortable here

I’m 18 and I am NEVER taken seriously by the ladies at the front desk. The few times I was there this year to ask a simple question about my insurance or to repair my glasses, I am completely ignored even if I’m at the front and waiting for them to see me, I’ve also been told to “take a seat” and was forgotten about for at least 10 minutes before I had another person get their attention for me. Awful customer service. I dread going there because I know for a fact they won’t be friendly.

Went in for new contacts and glasses- walked out of this office feeling like a million bucks.
The two technicians that helped me find glasses made me feel like I was shopping with two very stylish, best friends. I’ve never felt so confident in a glasses choice.
The gentleman who helped me get fitted for contacts went above and beyond as well- putting me in multiple different pairs to ensure I find what really works for me!
I love this office and greatly appreciate the staffs positive attitudes!! ✨⭐️☀️

I love my Optometrist office!I have never seen Dr. Rowena Rivera-Garcia without a smile! Its such a rare quality. Dr. Rowena Rivera-Garcia is a board certified Optometric Physician. Her staff is always very sweet and helpful and I would recommend his practice highly. They far exceed my expectations as great eye doctors and a great office staff. Each individual, from the doctors, to the office staff, to the eye technicians, treat you with the very best care. They explain everything, offer advice, getting me the best glasses and contacts for my eyes and taking care of all my eye needs plus working

A friend needed me to accompany her to Makar Eyecare this past week and I was very impressed. The staff was professional and accommodating and the facility was lovely. The comfortable waiting area included a great space for kids. Their selection of glasses was very extensive with frames available in all colors and price points. Dr. Clark took his time to explain procedures and answered all our questions patiently. With weekend hours they are able to accommodate those with hectic weekday schedules as well.

Now mid-Sept. No refund from Makar nor any contact from them. I paid full price for lenses that I did not receive.
Apparently updating my review removed my prior write-up.
Makar provided an excellent eye exam. I am not unhappy about that exam. The Optician provided deceptive and deceitful service. I ordered high quality lenses
But received inferior, cheaper ones. I paid top dollar for lenses that I did not receive.
The Optician did not care. Although she was "sorry", she only reluctantly offered me a refund after a lot of hedging.
The lenses I received are the cheap, thick ones.

Makar eyecare is a victim of its own success . I had to wait way too long at my last visit . If I call for anything ... except to make an appointment I only get to talk to a recording and am told no one will get back to me before the next day :(. I could not find glasses that fit me or that I liked for any price . They don't have any inexpensive glasses

I've been calling around to find out how much my Aetna/VSP insurance covers for an eye exam/contacts/glasses. This is the only provider that flat-out refused to tell me what my insurance would cover of their services before making an appointment. Even then, I was told they wouldn't even look up my insurance until two days before my appointment. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. May have possibly gotten a new receptionist because when I came here, the service was top notch. She was kind, quick and efficient. The eye doctors themselves are super knowledgeable and they all try to keep up with the latest and greatest technology. I really appreciate that!

I was scheduled to be fitted for contacts and dropped off medical release paperwork two weeks before my appointment. When I arrived they had not sent it over until 20 min before. Needless to say they didn't get a response. They then gave me an unnecessary eye exam and charge my insurance as well as myself. I'm not usually one to write reviews but today over two weeks after they were supposed to order my contacts I still have not received them. I just called them to hear they forgot to order them. Big place. Nice Decor. Except for the fake leather chairs that are falling apart. Very uncomfortable in shorts. Dark haired girl at the front seemed rude in her tone. She was nice. Her tone just sounded like she had something better to do.

To say my vision care needs are a bit complicated is an understatement; however, I was in good hands with Dr. Wentzien and the entire staff at Makar Eyecare. "Good enough" was not an option-Dr. Wentzien went above and beyond to make sure I was fitted with the contacts I needed. The entire staff was amazing. The front desk staff were professional and courteous while at the same time knowledgeable about my insurance vision benefits. The optical techs were very pleasant and provided excellent care. My only regret is that I didn't hear about Makar Eyecare sooner. I highly recommend this

What a great experience. I had never been to Makar before, but I'm impressed. I did my homework and was interested in a specific brand.
Jonathan was terrific. He familiarised me with the options, the fit, and lenses available.
My glasses were ready a full week ahead of schedule. Jonathan custom-fit them and they are perfect: comfortable, a great look, and I can see.

Just like Michael Bay, Makar Eye Care came back with a sequel I didn't want. In late June I received a bill from MEC that said they changed their minds again, and that my visit 11 months earlier wasn't covered. It's also worth noting that they only do billing once a month, so the letter was printed two days shy of a month of the day I received it.

I accompanied my niece and nephew to their appointment. While checking in, the front desk lady began giving my sister attitude. I didn't say or do anything.
